I'm kind of charmed by the people who insist that Aja writing an article about hockey fandom will expose them to unwanted attention from the people they're writing fic about.

If you don't want the people you're writing porny fanfic about to find out that you're writing porny fanfic about them, maybe don't post it to the internet? Or lock it, which impertinence, to her credit, is doing.

But if you post it publicly, that's on you. I'm pretty sure hockey players can Google their own names, if they're so inclined.

As a fan, I have said for years, will keep saying it, that if we want the media to represent us well, we have to represent ourselves first, before some asshole comes along and misrepresents us. As a fan, I know exactly how painful and devastating the breaking of the fourth wall can be: I lost my job because my editor found out about my fandom activities. I lost my job. I know what the worst-case scenario looks like. I am the worst-case scenario.

In other news, following a few links from this wank led me to a fresh Anne Rice quote on fanfic! Ms Rice has apparently strained her Dickensean principles a little recently:
