Because what would be better than Howl's Moving Castle with aliens and blood drinking?
Can thank a mousey at wank_report for this as well. And because I am lazy the write up is copy-pasted with links inserted.

So Untherius has a reputation as being someone you don't want to get fic from at Yuletide--background as to what he does here.

("Shout out to Untherius for the lowest of the low. At least the Gay Dragon fic was recognizably set in Pern.")

("I honestly don't think anyone deserves Untherius as a writer, unless you've maybe committed genocide or something.")

This year, he writes another Howl's Moving Castle fic for abluestocking...one that includes a crossover with two fandoms that the recipient is unfamiliar with, as well as graphic violence (blood drinking, consumption of raw organs).

This after abluestocking politely indicated that she would prefer not to receive a crossover.

People on fail_fandomanon collectively go "oh my God", and it's posted to yuletide_coal as well.

Then, someone who appears to be the recip, based off of their comment, comes forward:

So I got a primary fic that I...can't read?

That sounds funny. It's not in another language or anything. It's just that the author 1) did a crossover with a fandom I have absolutely no familiarity with, 2) wrote my requested character as an OC, and, most importantly, 3) wrote the entire thing around something that is a complete squick for me (and probably a lot of people).

A little further downthread, we have someone defending Untherius, calling other Yuletide writers/recips "entitled". The same anon appears again, and the end result is that someone posts a critique to the work on AO3 and the defender!anon flounces from Yuletide.

And all of this happens before reveals.

...and here I was thinking that the movie HMC diverged too far from canon for my tastes. Wow.

My favourite part of the HMC movie was my boyfriend and his brother turning to each other and saying, "Well, it wasn't *bad*, but it feels like I was watching a bad movie adaptation of a novel."

...and then me walking into my room and fishing out my copy of Howl's Moving Castle, and its sequel.

Speaking of which, there's a third book now, which I need to find and consume.

...man he doesn't get that the BDSM care bears story was explicitly written by request, does he?

Also, wow he doesn't get that he isn't supposed to contact the recipient either, it's supposed to go through Elyn. If only someone could get a warning for that.

Ooh, holiday wank!

calling other Yuletide writers/recips "entitled"

Well, there's "entitled", and then there's "recipient and others in fandom completely agree that this is off the mark", I would think...

One of the commenters on fandom fail-anon says it best, that there is a certain level of entitlement, but it's that while the recipient isn't entitled to getting a story they like, they *are* entitled to having their request filled. The writer isn't entitled to writing a story that they love about their own head canon, but to writing a story that fulfills the letter and spirit of Yuletide's rules.

And honestly, the grossest thing about this is the fact that they wrote about subject matter seemingly tailored to upsetting their recipient.

Expecting someone not to give you a pile of steaming shit as a gift that you volunteered to give them is "entitled"?

I am so exhausted by writers expecting nothing but praise. Because supposedly if you don't give them nothing but praise, you're exactly precisely the same as random assholes who call writers names for not making said assholes' preferred characters fuck. This is why we can't have concrit. It's all "you're perfect I will have your babies" or "you misplaced a comma and therefore you are a horrible human being."

The recipient seems to have also done the rather over-kind thing of reccing the bizarre gift-fic. I feel really bad for them - it's not like you can anticipate your writer wants to write EATING OF RAW ORGANS into their fic, so you're pretty unlikely to include that in your list of squicks.

They should absolutely complain.

Back when I did Yuletide, I'd always include something like "just go for it, writing something you get inspired to write, without worrying about the particulars" but this kind of stuff makes me think that's pretty inadvisable..

No kiddin'.

Unless it was some zombie-related fandom we were talking about here, but that is definitely not the case in this situation.

Well, you could argue that Howl's Moving Castle had aliens, what with those shooting star...things. And it had a sort of reverse of organ eating, what with Howl giving Calcifer his heart and oh dear God, why am I nitpicking this thing? Clearly I'm still not fully awake yet and I need another cup of coffee.

Also, why do people like pairing Care Bears with BDSM? I remember reading a Fan Fiction Friday on Topless Robot that featured Grumpy Bear as the subject of non-consensual BDSM (which horrified me because Grumpy's the only one of those bears I care about)

Aha! You're the person to ask! As a complete Yuletide outsider, what's with all the 'dentist' talk? It honestly took me a while to gather that fandom didn't all of a sudden have an influx of dental practitioners (which was funny for a while), but what does it mean and why?
