HDU spoil a book that's 75 years old!
smilla840 is unhappy because a Hobbit fanfic didn't warn for spoilers. Cue laughter.

Heh. I have honestly been dancing around "[THESE PEOPLE] die at the end omg (oh shit you don't know that)" with people. The way this first movie is set up... the three who die (IIRC?) are actually kind of the three you'd think would be sure to live.

Heh, I remember watching LotR book fans troll film fans by telling them Legolas died in the end. (Participating in this trolling may or may not have been one of my youthful indiscretions.) Somehow the idea of Hobbit spoilers is much funnier to me, maybe because I think of The Hobbit as a children's book and see reading LotR as a much bigger commitment.

I saw that and just decided to stay out of it. It seems even more absurd to me because smilla840 wants spoiler warnings for a book they already read, and just forgot the ending of. By that logic every fucking thing needs spoiler warnings because someone might have forgotten something.

I'm a bit o.O; at the people who describe the hobbit as a hard slog to read...

The hobbit's much, much easier to read than Lord of the Rings and is much shorter than the trilogy of movies would imply.

How do you read the Hobbit and forget the ending? I mean, not just details (going with the above thread, like the colors of the eyes on the tea-cup wargs) but the general parts of it (people drink tea in this world)!

In other words, how have you read it, seen the LOTR movies, and still think it will be a sparkly, fluffy, glitter bunny ending to the Hobbit?

Answer:

Yes, it is a fucking massive fandom that has been around forever, wtf is this question?

No, no one who has been a Tolkien fan since way before the movies came out gives a fuck about your delicate sensibilities as a movie-only fan who can't be arsed to re-read the book. The cute ones die. Get the fuck over it. It's not a spoiler after the first 50 years.

...on a kinder note to the OP, I think maybe she (zie?) came in from fandoms that are much more conscientious about spoilers and don't spoil one medium in progress when the other has been completed. I dabble in Tolkien fandom, and my perception has always been that if you're there and haven't read (or don't remember) the books, very few people in Tolkien fandom are catering to you, whether they tag something 'movie-verse' or not.

More like "HDU spoil a massively popular and influential 75-year-old book which I already read but forgot the ending to, and for which I'm reading future fic but still expect said future fic to contain no spoilers."

Or in short, "How dare the world not revolve around me!"

Also, Tolkien was a WWI vet. Nobody should be surprised when he kills off all the cute, young, sympathetic ones.

(Sidenote: Haven't watched the film yet, but just found out that Legolas's dad is being played by the Piemaker. LOL WUT that's awesome.)
