HDU spoil a book that's 75 years old!
smilla840 is unhappy because a Hobbit fanfic didn't warn for spoilers. Cue laughter.

Don't they talk about the Hobbit in the LotR movies, anyway? Not a lot, but bits.

Also, I saw the cartoon movie (finally). That was cute.

I saw that when I was a kid and it was broadcast on TV. I never saw it again but I still have a soft spot for it whenever I see it mentioned.

My boyfriend's family had it, and my boyfriend managed to get me to sit down and watch it (I'm terrible about watching movies, books I can read forever, but movies not so much) and I actually really enjoyed it.

I enjoyed the music (which I was explained was poetry in the book), and I enjoyed the story. I know after the first LOTR movie, I tried reading the first book and managed to read most of it (skipping to the ending to see if it was the same as the movie and it more or less is), but find Tolkien honestly too dry for my tastes. I appreciate his work in abridged movie format.

Regarding spoilers, I'll admit I spoil myself for things regularly because I don't like nasty surprises that cause me to be upset, and somehow, reading a detached summary on Wikipedia is nice and calming, but seeing it is bad.

I love the Rankin Bass cartoons. They were my intro to Tolkien. Gollum was horrifying in both 'The Hobbit' and 'LOTR' and I was shocked out of my mind when I learned that the Ring was...

spoiler alert!

...evil.

RankinBass did pretty decent book adaptations. I think the Hobbit is one of the better book-based films when graded on a "true to source" scale, along with The Last Unicorn.
