HDU spoil a book that's 75 years old!
smilla840 is unhappy because a Hobbit fanfic didn't warn for spoilers. Cue laughter.

The main benefit of The Hobbit is there's no Tom Bombadil in it.

Funny you should mention him: I've recently reread LotR, and found his bits not as unbearable as I'd remembered them being -- the whole sequence with the Barrow-wights was particularly memorable, in a spine-chilling sort of way.

However, even though I don't mind Tom so much now, I still definitely understand why he's not in the movies. Would have completely killed the momentum. Though it's worth noting he's sort of there, in spirit, in the extended edition of The Two Towers -- some of his lines are given to Treebeard, and Old Man Willow even makes an appearance.

I freaking love Tom Bombadil and, until right now, I had no idea that was a mutant opinion.
