BUT I ALREADY CAUGHT THEM ALL DAMMIT
Gamefreak and Nintendo promised an "evolution" of Pokemon earlier this week. Fans were excited, with most expecting an announcement for the sixth generation.
And indeed, there is going to be a brand new set of games, Pokemon X and Pokemon Y, released in October.

So you can imagine where this is going...
WHY THE HELL DO I GOTTA BUY A BRAND NEW SYSTEM FOR THIS GREEDY BASTARDS
I'm done except if they release Ruby and Sapphire
It's different why is it different
They look like Neopets but I'm not a genwunner!
REAL fans are excited. Fans that bash are stupid!
Hi jut wanted to tell you Gen 1 is still the best bye
It's just sad that we don't get what we want because we want nostalgia okay

One water/fighting. That's all I ask. I can't believe we got a samurai-based starter and it didn't evolve into a fighting pokemon.

I've heard the Fire starter evolves into Fire/Psychic, the Water one does evolve into Water/Fighting, and the Grass one Grass/Dark, I think? Take that with a grain of salt though.

Oh jeez. I was going to watch this from a distance, but if that comes to pass, I may have to subscribe to this newsletter.

That would be majorly kickass. I still want to know what the Grass type one is based on, though, cuz I don't quite see what it is -- a mole with a green hood?

A chestnut + a hedgehog, I believe. The English name invokes chestnuts and the French and a couple others invoke hedgehogs. It's kinda neat.

I kind of think it is a chipmunk? Although maybe it will grow into a porcupine? I don't think there has been a porcupine yet...

One person made the case that the frog has a collar / motif like a generic JApanese thief. Now THAT might be interesting

I can't believe it went from two stages of bipedal to quadrupedal. Maybe they'll give us an alternate form for it, where it's a bipedal fighter. Probably the same time they give us a fire/flying alternate form of Emboar, but a gal can dream, right?

Even weirder, the Musketeer quartet Legendaries are also quadrupedal, yet they get "Sacred Sword" -- in fact, they are the only ones who get it. (I understand that the Three Musketeers were swordsmen despite the name, but still... for the Pokemon derived from them to all be quadrupeds just seems really odd to me)

A samurai-based Pokemon, with a horn on its head, and the only "Sword" move it gets is Swords Dance, a stat-boosting move. It doesn't even get Horn Attack or Horn Drill!

So much missed opportunity.

THIS IS MY FRUSTRATION. Brompton evolved into a giant scary bristling swordy behemoth that...squirts water.

I can't believe we got a samurai-based starter and it didn't evolve into a fighting pokemon.

So many different shades of this. Huge opportunity wasted.

Okay, I think what I heard was based on the attacks the starters are shown using in the trailer.

Though they don't give names for these shiny newfangledly-animated attacks, they do show Chespin using something that looks like a Dark move (Night Slash, maybe?), Fennekin using Psychic or at least a purple and squiggly move that looks it, and Froakie using something that sure as hell looks like a Fighting move.

So no idea what the hell any of them actually evolve into, but they seem to at least have the ability to use the moves so... it's still a possibility, I hope!

If it's purple and squiggly could it be Wil-O-Wisp? Not that I would mind a Fire/Psychic - I WANT one, but I have a sinking suspicion that these are going to be pure starters.
