When an attempt at sarcasm goes terribly awry...
I present to you one of the wankiest LJ communities: ljchristians.

netguru posts that he's proud of Pres. Bush's stance on gay marriage.

manocheese adds to this by saying that video cameras should be installed in everyone's bedrooms in case someone has pre-marital sex or - gasp! - masturbates..

manocheese then insists that he was only kidding, and doesn't even really believe in god, yet the ljchristians continue to get wankier.

And Baby Jesus? He only cries.

Or rather, "So? There's other things in Leviticus that are listed as sinful that most people today look at as, well, not." You know, like the whole thou-shalt-not-acknowledge-menstruating-females rule.

And every time someone says, "God says," I always think, wow, you have a direct communication with God? Do you talk on the phone or in IM?

Well, apparently Bush thinks because he's the President that he can go around actin' all hoitey-toitey sayin' "It's God's will to do this, it's God's will to do that." Didn't he say it was "God's will" to invade Iraq?

I think it's time someone informed him of a little thing called 'separation of Church and State'...

Have you ever heard the Voltaire (goth singer, not dead French philosopher) song called "God Thinks"? It's a funny-ass song that basically not only hits on that point, but buys it a drink, brings it home and gives it cab fare and breakfast in the morning.

I found some of those people in there to be more terrifying than wanky...I am always so amazed when I read their earnest yet frightening opinions. The guy who was being sarcastic? Well...seems to me that there were people in there that held the same opinions but MEANT them. Yikes.

I'm pretty sure there is no anti-sex precisely in the Bible, but the fact that Christianity has taken sex as a sin is aparent all around us - ie. women using tampons,

Man, I was totally with her up until that point. What the hell does using tampons have to do with sinning? I thought it was so women wouldn't just bleed all over themselves during menstruation, which would be, well, icky.

As a practicing Christian, I can't believe that all those people managed to miss one of the biggest points in the Bible: God gave mankind free will. I've always thought it would be a bigger sin to take away someone's freedom than to let them go their merry way down a path that one thinks is 'wrong'.

(That community made my inner Libertarian go into seizures)

Big question:

I've noticed that when this community starts discussing religious wank (esp. concerning infringement on the rights of minorities, homosexuals, liberals, etc.), everyone seems to have a basically liberal point of view. The Christians that exist on this board almost always disassociate themselves from their ultra-conservative counterparts.

If someone starts arguing on behalf of the ultra-conservative Religious people, they usually tend to be people who signed onto Fandom Wank ONLY for that purpose.

Thus: Would you say that Fandom Wank basically has a
very liberal, very church-and-state-seperation overlook, as a whole? Is there much conservatism to be found in Fandom wank?

If you ever want to learn about two sides of any religious debate, I can't recommend The Ontario Consultans on Religious Tolerance website strongly enough. Specifically, this page talks about the whole issue of homosexuality in the Old Testament, complete with numerous cited references.

And for an object lesson in just how horrifying these beliefs can get, read all about Christian Reconstructionism.
