See, this just makes me want to get all pedantic and explain very patiently why an abbey wouldn't be 'downtown' in the first place, which is the sort of thing that is so self-evident in the UK that Julian Fellowes would never even have imagined anyone getting confused about it in the first place.
Reminds me of a story I read about someone's adverse reaction to 'Brideshead Revisited'; she apparently thought it was literally something to do with a decapitated bride...
