Oh christ. You're making me choose between Chancery Stone and Icingwank. Meanie.

I'm like a donkey between two hay bales, and one of them is topped with buttercream frosting and the other with icing.

Whoa, Chancery Stone is still at it - two glowing reviews from people who have only ever reviewed her books. Although I note that they commit sacrilege by not capitalising and use different writing styles, so they might be real people, or perhaps she is better at assuming different personas.

And then, of course, I am snickering over the use of Gratuitous!German in the title, presumably to make it all Dark! and Edgy! - and also totally grammatically wrong. I'm disappointed, though, because on seeing the title I had hoped for a German translation to laugh at. After all, there's Google Translate, so why not?

I thought it was going to take me a long time to figure out what was wrong with the title, considering how little German I speak, but it actually took me approximately thirty seconds, including double-checking. Which is clearly more time than she spent.

I can imagine few things more bizarre than reading a Chancery Stone book that's been put through Google Translate.

So... is she ever going to write another book?

May I suggest MANNY?

Also, what on Earth is going on in that cover? Has (I assume that is him) DANNY just pushed his hand and arm into that poor person's shoulder?

So, for those of us who don't speak German, what's the error? A mismatch in grammatical gender, poor agreement between adjective and noun (or should there have been...I don't know what it's called in German where what would be a phrase in, say, English or French is written smooshed together)? Not that it will help me, it'll just bug me if I don't know.

Choosing between Chancery and frosting/icing was hard. But, then I remembered that Chancery has written (and, okay, probably subsequently deleted) multiple posts about me! That's the sort of personal touch that wins her my vote.

I had to go back after refreshing my memory of Cousinjean and throw my vote to the (possibly) special anus.*

While her brazen entitlement is classic, the background buzz of worry feels a bit dated. Not that fanfic, money, copyright, etc. aren't still major topics of debate. But it's got quite a differnt feel in 2013, post Cassie Clare and E.L. James, than it did in 2005.

We'd still leap on CJ's effrontery today but we'd be having a whole different conversation while doing it.

*And thank you, F_W, for making that sentence possible.

It was through the anus wank that I learned that peanut butter can be used as lube. I didn't even revisit CJ. That kind of "oh god why do I remember this" factoid is what makes a wank a classic.

An hour or two after I voted for Chancery in the poll--which was hard, because icing vs. frosting was awesome--I googled "life in Orkneys," following a random impulse learn more about the Orkneys. And the SECOND LINK was about a controversial book slamming the islands, written by Chancery Stone's partner. She's mentioned by first name only. I googled some more, and yeah: it's her.

I spent the better part of the weekend reading the entire MsScribe biography. What an amazing tale and a truly fascinating read! I wish I had been active at FW at that time to experience it firsthand, but alas I was primarily playing FFXI during those years.

I've never played Final Fantasy. See, you were having cool adventures and I was learning that some people who liked my fic were also other people, or stanning for themselves, or conducting a social experiment in which they were writing as a male to see if that made a largely female fandom more interested -- and I don't even have a story about "I BEAT THAT ONE LEVEL" to tell.

I cannot pick between Msscribe and Kittenmommy... Msscribe is definitively epic, but Kittenmommy is like a bad memory. I don't even need to read up on her, I know it well-ish!! Gaaaahh! Snacky!!!

ISN'T SHE STILL HERE? (Albeit not signing her posts.)

Kittenmommy doesn't even hold a candle to the MsScribe story. That was some epic batshit right thurr. (And a lot of wankas - okay, at least myself - feeling douchey about prior wanks.)

Call me when Kittenmommy starts signing posts as her nanny, a Pakistani woman, an evangelical, and a fandom BNF, and then we'll talk. (Didn't MsScribe eventually have something like SIXTY-ONE socks, all of them dedicated to starting shit in HP fandom?

I know Laptopgate is going to make it through this round (and sail through its first match), but I really hope it isn't in the finals. The original part of the wank -- the fact that people bought CC A FUCKING LAPTOP -- was and remains wanky and shady as hell. The rest of it is when FW went from "not the fucking fandom police" to some sort of collective consciousness in terms of "this is where the line is, you jackass." Shit got serious and it was the start of the climate change that evolved with post-Katrina donations (and BJR-related fallout).

It was a defining moment, but not a pleasant memory. I just remember the fucking endless comments and the sheer nastiness as everyone grew more entrenched in their positions. And there really wasn't anything redeeming about it, either, since CC has a career and Heidi -- is Heidi.

Maybe it foreshadows the start of spreading SJ norms. Or not. But it definitely was less of a "wank" and more of a "clusterfuck."

I had to vote for Msscribe. She inspired a username in the short story I'm writing for one of my liberal arts classes.

Hell, a small portion of said story is just lightly inspired by the years I spent lurking FW.

I had to go with frosting/icing over Chancery Stone because (a) I had to refresh my memory of CS and didn't have to for the frosting/icing wank, and (b) whilst CS is truly batshit, the whole idea of wank about what you call the stuff you put on cakes is just so delightful to me.

Meanwhile, I am terrified of the moment we have to choose between MsScribe and Crystalwank, because that just seems impossible.
