Tenth Anniversary Deathmatch, first round, part 4
Yesterday's winners: Chancery Stone, Perhaps I have a special anus?, Laptopgate, and Msscribe. I think if our voting patterns show us anything, it's that we really love catchphrases, and we really can't stop obsessing about Chancery Stone. :D

Today is the last of the first round contestants! Links to all can be found here if you need to brush up. Vote early and often. I mean. Just early.

If you are torn between BJR outwalking a hurricane and the Domlijah tinhats, I would just like to remind everyone that without them, we wouldn't even HAVE the word "tinhats". They were the ORIGINALS, baby! :D

And the tinhat cult was bigger and scarier and funnier.

The BJR thing had one funny bit: when [info]tiki called her a "goddam baby-woman" but the tinhats were funny for YEARS.

That was a gem but BJR refusing to eat a cassowary on her survival trek because it might be venomous was also hilarious.

Granted, I didn't know what a cassowary was before googling it, but poisonous birds, really? Particularly from someone recommending people should catch and eat city pigeons.

Although Wikipedia claims that "Cassowaries are very shy, but when disturbed, they are capable of inflicting serious or even fatal injuries to dogs and people." So, erm, if I ever come across one, I'll stay well away.

I've just now realized that Dominic Monaghan now has a new show about surviving in the wilderness.

Are the streams crossing?

From what bits and pieces I've seen of the show, it's less surviving in the wilderness and more "look at this nifty but dangerous creature".

Was he ever in a hurricane?

I've only seen him in a jungle, in a desert, and in a city on the show, so as far as I know, no.

There is a poisonous bird, actually! At least one, there may be more. It's coated in the same sort of poison that poison arrow frogs use. I can't remember their name, but they're called something like trash birds by the locals because they smell like ass.

*googles* Aww, that's a pretty bird!

And wow, wildlife in my country is boring (but also somewhat safer) compared to some other places on the planet). Nothing that eats people, and nothing that poisons you fatally, unless you are very unlucky with vipers, or of course allergic to something.

How are there even living people in Australia

We don't have any large native predators on land and we have antivenin for practically everything? Except Irukanji, but just stay out of the water, and you'll be right. Cassowaries, while quite dangerous, are limited to our very small areas of rainforest, and apparently if you're ever in a conflict with them you should position yourself behind a tree, and keep moving around the tree as they attempt to kick you to death. But they're pretty endearing, so it's okay.

I mean, there's a 0% chance of ever being eaten by a bear in the Australian outback, though.

Apparently air horns are also very effective in scaring them, so that's a comfort as well. :)

without them, maybe we wouldn't have the J2 tinhats. And that...okay, it wouldn't be a tragedy, but there would be a lot less wank in the world.

I honestly think the world is a better place without J2 tinhats.

And this is coming from a longtime RPSer.

Yeah, at the very beginning I felt the J2 tinhats were amusing but harmless. Now the insanity has reached scary levels, as well as the sheer denial of reality going on there. (also, none of them write particularly good fic)

I'm not sure, but did the DomLij tinhats write fics? There seemed to be a weird view in some portion of the J2 tinhats contingent who thinks RPS fics smeared impurity onto their perfect OTP. Can't remember if the DomLijers thought the same.

But considering the tinhats all think Jensen is made of virginal snow and can do no wrong and Misha is evil, etc, I think their fics are bound to be boring. There's only so much plots and conflicts you can give pretty!princess!Jensen after all without giving him (gasp!) *flaws* like mere human beings.

Yeah, I was re-reading through it and found myself getting really ticked off just reviewing it. It's amazing for what it is, but the tinhats make me grind my teeth less.
