OT PSA: Wank -- It's not just for Christians anymore
While Christians supply the most religious wank, there's Heathen and Pagan wank out there -- trust me. Unfortunately, most of what I see is on members-only, what's-here-stays-here lists.

Some of these folks could give MsA and Co. a run for their money in the "bitch, are you for real?" department.

I think these guys can even put HP fandom to shame at times from what I've seen, and that's saying something.

Could you provide us with any examples of Pagan/Heathen wank? Like... summarize a couple of conflicts, post a couple of annonymous posts, talk about some silly topics that have listed flame wars, etc.

I think this site would become all the better for exploring new realms and domains of wankdom. Harry Potter and Monkees etc. wank are always hilarious... but the thought of new wank topics does make me tingle inside!

Well, there's always Fluff Bunny bashing, which isn't technically supposed to happen, but there you are. Usually happens when a teenybopper annoys the heck out of some other folks.

And then there's minor wank like "Is Witchcraft a religion?"

I'm curious: does religion count as a fandom?

Only if you're talking about Kevin Smith?

Which Kevin Smith?

Oh wait - it works with either.

Whaddya mean, "technically not supposed to happen"? I'm on a list that does just that! :D

And yes, it's one of the what's here, stays here list.

I was trying to be tactful and diplomatic! Not that making fun of them isn't fun, but some of us have pet Fluffies. "She followed me home, can I keep her?"

That being said, teenyboppers and people who haven't done their research annoy me something fierce.

I have to agree...

I think the second group is the more annoying -- and does generate more wank than any. One of the really amusing things for me is that there's many 'christians' who prove the observation that singing Christmas carols has been found to not even convert christians to Christianity. (Christianity suffers in many places from being the 'religion of choice' -- like a state religion, except without any actual compulsion to go outside of social pressure.)

Of course, sometimes it's just plain pathetic, like one time I got stuck listening to a group of 'christians' talking about 'how cool Buddha is' over their dinner and who knew very little about either religion. Meanwhile, the person I was eating with, who has been a member of both religions (though of course not at the same time), was finding them even more annoying...

Heh. Well, I meant types that are so blatant about their lack of research that they don't even realize that they sound like idiots.

For example, there was this guy that insisted that Hel was concieved and born while Loki was in the form of a mare (birth of Sleipnir, blah blah). The problem with this? Hel's mother is the giantess Angrboda. Unless lesbian bestiality has hitherto unknown powers that Loki can exploit, that doesn't quite work.

Not that it isn't a terribly funny mental picture.

Yes. But how can one manage to get to your teens without having read Norse myth is beyond me, but perhaps that's a side effect of having been surrounded by books on mythology and anthropology since before I could read...
