Tenth Anniversary Deathmatch, FINALS
Both of yesterday's battles were closer than I had expected, in the beginning at least. But once Msscribe and Crystalwank gained momentum, there was no stopping them (which is actually kind of true for the wanks and the wankers, now that I think about it), sorry Mrs. Horse and Snapewives.

But as Sep said: "Harry Potter and Lotr wanks in the end: Just as God intended."

Now there can only be one.

Poll #599
Open to: All, results viewable to: All

You choose:

Crystalwank
113 (33.7%)

Msscribe
222 (66.3%)

Ready? VOTE.

ETA: A THREAT!

ETA 2: As of 3/18/13, 9:38 am EST, this poll is closed. If you vote after that time, it will not be counted and will not change the winner. The Deathmatch is over, folks. Go home. :D

You know, if there is ONE thing that the deathmatch has made me realize, it's that I am supremely upset that "fauxpology" has lost to "notpology" in the pop culture lexicon. Seriously, how is "notpology" better than "fauxpology", which IIRC I started using because "heidipology" was too FW-centric.

Fauxpology is so much better, I mean really.

(Also, I kind of want both of these to win. Crystalwank was when I realized how much I love FW, and probably loads of other people, so it's kind of the super classic, but MsScribe is just seriously one of the most epic fandom wanks ever for being so far-reaching and with such huge tendrils. Isn't she also partly why the harmony thing got so wanky? and she helped move things around so that all the Heidi and CC wanks ended up where they were...

Crystalwank was amazing and coined a lot of our shibboleths, but MsScribe was like the puppetmaster of HP wank. Uhm, accidental pun intended?)

Has it, really? I only ever see "fauxpology" used online, and I don't think I've ever seen or heard anyone say "notpology".

The only place I see fauxpology is around here. Language Log, NPR comments... it's always Notpology. So I assumed the greater internet settled on that instead of fauxpology.

Huh, interesting. Fauxpology definitely seems to be the default on LJ, at least.

LJ gets all the good neologisms.

The word "unfriend" makes my skin crawl. DEFRIEND, DAMMIT.

My guess, in all seriousness?
(American) people don't know how to pronounce those four letters at the start, or know what they mean. "Not" is so much easier and clearer.

Yeah, probably that except a lot of the people I see using it - especially on Twitter lately, where I follow Hodgman the like - aren't exactly the kind of people who don't know the word "faux". Also, having two voiceless stops like "t" and "p" between the same type of vowel is harder for me to say.

Though, yanno, I guess notpology IS shorter for tweets. By a whole character!
