Msscribe! She defeated Crystalwank easily in the end, and who was really surprised? I am sure she's out there somewhere, cackling over this latest triumph in her quest to dominate fandom. :D

Thanks for playing along! I hope you all had a good time. I don't know if we'll do this ever again, but it was fun to go back to all the old wanks and take a stroll down memory lane.

I re-read the Msscribe account/biography and it was superbly entertaining, even the second time around. I honestly think a part of what made that wank so epic was the way Msscribe played Fandom_wank with her Sporkify account to increase her own persecution/infamy and so the f_w community was equally conned but also that the eventual write-up was just so well-written.

It also captures a very certain BNF-centric time in the HP fandom. I don't know many current fandoms intimately but I daresay they aren't really as focused on the BNFs as the HP fandom was back then. I'd just arrived in 2003 and was astounded by the way some of these people were followed/worshipped.

It'd be hard to repeat msscribe's results now, as (from what I know of it anyway, not being in any fandoms currently) things are a lot more decentralized...

They looked like they'd be neck-and-neck with LotR for a while there, but in the end, HP wins it hands down.

Went to check entry one of the msscribe saga, and WOW did it get spammed hard! It looks at first glance like it has as many pages of comments as crystalwank, only..... all of them are pure spam from 2008 ._. Is there a way to clean that up?

I was thinking Crystalwank would take the win, but in the end I'd have to say Msscribe definitely deserved it. Crystalwank was great fun but it's a bit of a 'you had to be there' sort of thing, whereas the saga of Msscribe is more of a timeless tale of wank and sockpuppetry that can be read and enjoyed over and over again.

I went back and reread the ENTIRE Msscribe epic this week. Man. I'd forgotten how truly wonderful the entire thing was. Thanks for thinking of this trip down memory lane.

I read the entire msscribe story last night and actually had nightmares about it. I don't remember what I dreamed, but the batshit apparently seeped into my subconscious.
(I'm also wondering how no one seemed to have noticed that msscribe and all her trolls had the same writing style, including pet words and phrases - how many times did she say "wench"??? - and a weird habit of dropping the first letter of words, like "rying" for "trying". HOW DID NO ONE NOTICE?)

Good thing I'm not a gambling woman. I would have put money on CrystalWank skating through based on sheer meta (maybe not the right word?) infamy alone. The number of memes that generated was kind of awesome. CrystalWank was the Wank to End All Wanks except it was also kind of the opening ceremonies barometer. Everything else has been measured against it. But I do agree with many others that the content, the sheer complexity... and to some degree too, the great reporting by the whistleblower, make the MsScribe saga really the superior one over all.
