Considering this is the same bunch of people who tried, in earnest, to make My Little Pony Tulpas... I just can't be surprised by anything bronies do anymore.
Particularly given historical precedent: a number of Chinese fictional characters have come to be worshipped in earnest as deities, including Sun Wukong and Xuanzang from Journey to the West.
