Just In Time For FW's Anniversary!
My friends:

I have just found a wank that arguably combines elements of three of the classic wanks recently featured in the Deathmatch: His Wife, A Horse, the Snapewives, and My Ponies Hate You Now.

Simply put: Deviant Art member Kevinsano specializes in My Little Pony art. However, another Bronie recently wrote him a letter asking him to curtail his more erotic MLP art, particularly art depicting Twilight Sparkle - because, argued this correspodent, he and Twilight Sparkle were engaged.

I'm totally head over heels in love with Twilight Sparkle. I have been for 11 months now and at this point I'm in a committed relationship with my Twiley.

Actual email reproduced here. MTV coverage here, and the AV club weighs in here.

Enjoy.

Updated: For your convenience, a dramatic reading of the letter, if you prefer podcasts...

Update the Second: The blushing bridegroom's account of his love story on the MLP fandom fora. (I couldn't get the link to the profile to work, so than you for this!) (Update of the update: link now goes to a Googlecache as the forum link proper stopped working.)

Thanks, anon!

Google cache offers up an amazing treasure trove of his writings. Like his bio/love manifesto here: http://www.redlightponyville.com/forums/archive/index.php?thread-775.html

Long story short (following quotes pulled from other posts of his), he left his boyfriend of almost eight years for Twilight Sparkle, and still lives in the same house as his ex in a converted pony-themed tv room until he can save up enough money for a place with his fiance. Whiiiiich would be a lot easier if this self-boasted genius ["by IQ standards I'm actually considered a genius and in the top 1% of the population"] didn't hate working so much ["I'm 27 years old and I still feel like having to work more than 4 days a week is just too much to bear"] and didn't spend his time and energy hunting down Twilight Sparkle themed merchandise on eBay.

Viewing all of his posts on a timeline is really depressing, though. He goes from admitting that it's just elaborate fantasy in November ["LOL! No schizophrenia, I just have a very beautiful Twilight Sparkle plushie and a very vivid imagination that allows me to believe my plushie is actually Twilight. Thus I treat her as if she was indeed Twiley, because to me she is. I'm not crazy, I know it's a fantasy, but the whole relationship feels quite real to me so I talk and act as though it is. My feelings of love for her are very real, and the verbal and physical ways in which I express those feelings are too. So as far as I'm concerned I'm in a really happy and fulfilling relationship with Twilight Sparkle."] to this letter to the DA artist and talking about teleportation to Equestria and Tara Strong as just a sound-alike to the actual Twilight Sparkle ["It’s really unfortunate that someone decided to send this to Tara Strong, as she has almost no connection to Twilight Sparkle whatsoever as far as I’m concerned. To me she’s just a voice actor who can make her voice sound like my partner’s and there’s really no connection past that"].

Is there a word for this particular phenomena? This falling in love with/having a relationship with a fictional character/imaginary friend type . . . thing? Because this keeps coming up, from the guy who wanted somebody's Sonic The Hedgehog Mary Sue brought through the astral plane so he could be with her, to the gal who had an 'elf guide' who she interacted with through a doll, to the Snapewives to Mrs. Sephiroth to . . . I think the list may indeed go on.

We need to think of a name. I can't, because I am on five (5!) painkiller-type drugs. But there must be a name!

According to wikipedia, the term for falling in love with cartoon characters is Schediaphilia, although it's name-dropped in a casual unsourced way, and also lists Plushophilia as the love of plushies. A generalized category of love for fictional characters doesn't seem to exist, despite its long and glorious history. I would suggest mythophilia (from mythos=fictional), but urbandictionary already has that as the subset of zoophiles that love mythical animals.

Or you could lump it in with soulbonding and call it a day.

A quick Google search suggests that obesession-based attraction to a fictional character is a sign of antisocial personality disorder because the person is forsaking a real human being for a fictional being.

Do you mean clinical medical word? Because otherwise, it's just a version of otherkin to me - I mentally consider soulbonding/astral plane stuff to be a subset of otherkin, or maybe closely related? like instead of it being Joe who thinks he's Other, he's normal, it's his True Love who is Other. Or sometimes both. Seems to be closely linked, anyway.

I don't know if it's sadder that it's a cartoon pony in this case, instead of a real one.

No, it's sadder that he's still living in the same house as his ex.

Hey, at least there isn't some real live pony having to put up with getting nailed by this guy, à la His Wife A Horse. I vote cartoon pony is less sad.

he left his boyfriend of almost eight years for Twilight Sparkle,

That, ladies and gentlemen, is what I call a hard dump. I mean, for all I know the bf was relieved because he might have been tired of triple-dating and only smooching if plushy Twilight Sparkle wasn't looking but...OH MY GOD, you got dumped for a My Little Pony? I need to buy this guy a cookie or something.

I dunno, if I were the boyfriend I'd be like "Thank you for clearly and unambiguously demonstrating how completely batshit insane you are. I shall now run in the other direction and never look back." Although they're still living in the same house, so who even fucking knows.

That link led to this link and I.... I kind of lost track of the rabbit hole right around there.

What IS a tulpa?? No one quite explains it, is it just for pre-existing fictional characters or any overly-focused-upon mental construct?

aaaahhhh it just keeps getting deeper

4chan, I think it might have been /v/, latched onto tulpas a while back. They seem to mean a mental construct (or imaginary friend, IMO) that you focus on so hard it actually becomes real and can operate independently of you, possibly even to the point of interacting with the rest of the world.

What is it with this persistent delusion that being in the top 1% of intelligence is remotely comparable to genius? 1 in 100 people are bright, but they're far removed from Einstein, Tesla, or other geniuses.

The top one or two percent of intelligence is just like, average grad student smarts (and to even get into grad school you still have to work).

I believe if I were Tara Strong I'd be mightily heartened by that last statement. Otherwise, if I were Tara Strong, I'd be calling up those Supernatural boys and asking if there's any extra room for a sublet in that fancrazy-proof bunker they're due to be moving their families into any time now....

From personal experience - pony-themed anything is hella expensive. He'd have more than enough money to move out from his ex if he was uh, not buying pony... things....

it's just a good thing I finished my collection before I left college, is all
