When I was a kid, my mom had a friend who worked for Walden Books or something, and he would save a bunch of the stripped books for teachers he knew. Almost all of my L. M. Montgomery books are missing covers because he saved them for me, after my mom saw me read Anne of Green Gables a bazillion times and mentioned it to him.

The prison thing is even better. :)
