Re: In the faint hopes that this post might provide SOME entertainment... I went to TEDxSydney on Saturday, and my mind was blown. There were high numbers of hipster, online libertarian and media/marketing people, but also lots of fascinating other people from all walks of life who were open about being fannish or their hobbies or their politics and what small gestures they've made towards making the world a better place (like taking in a refugee as a housemate rather than the best dressed white non-smoker girl to apply). I can really recommend it. The crowds during the breaks as people queued up for food were a little overwhelming, but if you hid at the back and waited until they thinned it was okay. And when I took to hiding in a corner to avoid my social anxiety, the people who came over and started conversations were all very nice and socially aware enough to know when not to push. I started the day on my own, and walked out with the names and email addresses of a bunch of people that I'd like to know better. OOH, and "my" telescope, which was damaged by bushfires in January, looks like it will be ready for observations tomorrow lunchtime! And we're on first, where we is my boss and I, and we're going to be running it constantly for the next two weeks. Not that we need sleep or anything. (I'm thinking we should recruit a few phd students.) If you don't mind a milkshakey earworm, here's a video of my nephew singing his favourite song of the moment. We've since got him singing it while holding and drinking a milkshake, but that's not yet online. Post a comment in response: |
