Well yes - I will not disagree with you there at all.
But experience has pointed to SPN fandom having a slightly irrational mob mentality so while I don't think Jensen Ackles is the bastion of tolerance, I also don't think he'd go out of his way to embarrass a random fan.
tl;dr - Creation sucks, this whole idea of conventions you pay upwards of thousands of dollars to hear actors suck, and while I don't think Jensen Ackles is a bastion of love and tolerance, experience has taught me this is far less one individual and lots of really intensely... passionate people making a mountain out of a big ol' hole of fail
