I do agree in general, and these days always use a customizable tag when it's something I don't think anyone else will care about. But I mostly don't track tags either.

Actually in the main fandom I'm on tumblr for no one tags stuff not related to them by their tag, probably because it's not in English, but still, I find following other fans (once I've found them) much more easy than tracking tags.
