Pretty girls are kryptonite to SPN fans
Spoilers for the upcoming season of Supernatural!

Zombie show Supernatural's Misha Collins revealed at Comic-Con that his character, Castiel, would be getting his first sex scene in the upcoming season, though he refused to give any details about his sex partner. Today, the Huffington Post published an interview with him in which he iterated basically the same information, except for one tiny difference: he mentions females.

Though he still doesn't give away anything about who Castiel is making the beast with two backs with, he does say, "for the first time, when a pretty girl talks to Cas, he takes pause."

Naturally, the fans who were hoping for Dean/Cas take it in stride. Well, some of them do. Some of them lose their minds.

X So, I guess being an angel trapped in a human vessel means you’re automatically going to be heterosexual. So much for the theories about Cas being pansexual/possibly sleeping with a man! It’s all about the pretty girls, right? Wow.
X That’s it, I’m definitely done with spn. People can keep being naive and delusional, and writing their shitty meta about how any of this is oh so wonderful for destiel, but it’s evident they won’t ever make it canon, it was never their intention. Season 8 was just a big queerbaiting fest; the ‘profound bond’ was stammered as a joke, it was all a joke for them but we all bought it. They’ve been consistently writing Cas as a cis het male, even if he wasn’t human, obviously they have no reason to change that now that he is.

I’m not letting them laugh at me any longer, they can shove their crappy show up their het asses.
X I am already seeing people defend this and express distaste for people who are upset by the comments here, so I’m going to enlighten them. [...] Let’s see: A Question is asked about Castiel and what do we get? More talk about “pretty girls" and hormones. Every member of the cast and crew knows that this line of discussion is horrifically upsetting to many fans, yet they continue to joke and brag about it. It would seem that they don’t care that they’re upsetting people. If they did, they would at least tone it down. Instead the talk continues. Some of us see this as a blatant disregard for an entire part of fandom. A part of fandom that has contributed to the success of the show. It’s a slap in the face and it’s unfortunate that there are so many people blinded by loyalty that they can’t see that. [...] Again, rubbing salt into the wound and enjoying it. As many good qualities as Misha Collins has, right now he’s not showing much kindness for the fans who are hurting right now. And yes, he knows many are hurt. This is a way of telling us that they don’t care.

So there it is. A few reasons (but not all) why this article is causing upset in the fandom. They always try to appease the brother only fandom, this time they’re doing it at our expense. We have a right to be upset.
On the other side of the equation, Octoswan posts that she doesn't understand why people are upset, and explains:
I feel like that’s 90% Misha trolling, and even if it’s not? “Taking pause" to a pretty lady does not equal dyed-in-the-wool straightness, nor does it equal a NO HOMO sentiment. This is people projecting negativity where there is none, for something that hasn’t even happened yet. [...] What if Cas was bisexual? What if he wanted to have sex with everyone??? (wait that’s Misha) And having sex with a lady, whoever she might be if it does happen, doesn’t destroy destiel/deancas, because I’m pretty sure it’ll be part of Cas’ arc in some way, something to up the drama.
But others are not taking it so well:
X Yep, this is me peacing out on Supernatural.
I’m done with this show.
I didn’t get into this to watch Cas flirting and sleeping with all the “pretty girls."
I didn’t invest time and energy and emotion to watch 4 fucking years of tension and build-up between 2 characters go down the shitter because TPTB didn’t have the balls to go through with it.
The writers don’t want to “define" Destiel, or “limit" Destiel by making it romantic, according to Adam Glass [Ed. note: I have no idea who this is], (even though all you need is two fucking eyes and a brain to see that it is), but hey, Dean and Cas can fuck all the women they want because they’re so clearly heterosexual. Obviously. What on earth would make me think that an angel in a male vessel could be anything else.
I’ll be back if I’m proven otherwise.
Until then?
Bye.
And:
X It’s simply that I’ve reached my limit with them. I’ve held on to hope during some pretty dark times. Even after SDCC, I told myself that even though it’s clearly not going to be Dean that Cas sleeps with, maybe they’ll take a chance with Cas and not go the “manly man, no homo" route. [...] It would not make sense for an angel to have one single sexual orientation, they shouldn’t care! They should go after anyone they like. But Misha just made it sound like, nope, Cas is hetero, Cas likes pretty girls!! So…there goes my last string of hope. I simply don’t trust Supernatural with my feelings, I don’t. I’ve let things slide before, but I can’t help feeling I’m just setting myself up for heartbreak and disappointment now. And like I said…this might not be permanent. It just depends on what I hear/see from here on out.
I suppose their surprise at Castiel's interest in "pretty girls" might be surprise if Castiel hadn't made out with a girl on the show. He was even got married in one episode where he had amnesia (though that episode was so bad that I think both the fans and the writers are pretending it didn't happen). (And, of course, there were the orgies in a flashforward episode.) So this is not unprecedented. And Misha Collins has been quite supportive of Dean/Castiel shipping. But that's not enough:
X You can’t live as long as Cas has or seen as much as Cas has and not see humans as inferior beings, even subconsciously. But nooooooo, Cas will want to fuck all the pretty girls now that he’s human. In reality, they would seem so immature to him after all he’s been through and seen. This makes me sick. I hate [showrunner] Jeremy Carver for fucking with us last season and making us believe that destiel was going to happen. Carver can take his this new version of Cas and shove him up his ass.

Word. Angels: not actually fluffy looking. I may be remembering wrong, but aren't the angels who had sex with man the ones who sided with Lucifer and were subsequently banished?

From folklore, there's the demonic equivalent in Succubi, who had sex with men while they slept. Incubus is the male version.

Yeah, but incubi aren't sexy. They're like, small weird boys with gigantic penises. Girls don't get anything nice.

Bible angels are either freakish eye/wing/wheel hybrids or they look like like regular people (as in the Sodom and Gomorrah story). Supernatural usually gets Biblical lore right, which is kind of bizarre because it's Supernatural.

And when they come to Abraham iirc. See, this I remember. The sex part I hadn't!

Well, it's not really clear who's doing the sexing. It's from Genesis, chapter 6: "When man began to multiply on the face of the land and daughters were born to them, the sons of God saw that the daughters of man were attractive. And they took as their wives any they chose. Then the Lord said, “My Spirit shall not abide in man forever, for he is flesh: his days shall be 120 years.” The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of man and they bore children to them. These were the mighty men who were of old, the men of renown."

It's a bizarre passage that is never really explained in the Christian Bible. It's probably fleshed out in some Torah commentary, but I don't know much about that.

I had too much time on my hands so I got out my Stone edition Chumash. Which is not the last word in Torah commentary by any means, but apparently some commentators say it doesn't actually mean "sons of G-d" (though that is what it means literally) but sons of powerful people, who took wives from the lower classes who had no ability to say no to them. Others say it has to do with righteous descendants of Seth marrying people who weren't righteous.

However, Torah commentary being what it is, it's a pretty safe bet that there are more... supernatural (hee!) explanations from other commentators.

Also if the lack of angels is disappointing, commentators still seem to agree that the Nephilim were huge giants.

(I have no idea what the implications are for Castiel and pretty girls.)

They actually had a Nephilim (a nephil?) on the show last season, so they are possible on Supernatural canon. Hey, there's an argument for Dean/Cas - nonreproductive sex!

I decided a while back that if I was ever going to run another Ars Magica chronicle, and an angel showed up, it would be this incomprehensible (even to magi) welter of wings and eyes and wheels and too-bright-to-look-directly-at light. Blazing sword optional.
