im in ur tag shipping my d00dz - or, War of the Science Bros
Avengers fandom uses the tag "science bros" on tumblr to mean Bruce and Tony. Then Pacific Rim fans started using the tag to mean Newt and Hermann. Clearly, there can be only one.

[Note: This wank was posted once before but had to be deleted when it turned out one person cited was underage. Ze has been removed and now there's new fresh wank added.]

ask-science-boyfriends collects a giant number of complaints about the shared tag and says, "So yes, this is all meant in respect. It’s just getting a little crazy, and I want us all to be friends and I want you to have one ship name to rule them all! Thanks guys. Anything we can do here to help the quest for one true ship name, just let us know. <3))"

Maybe a firm open letter will settle their hash! iamsomanythings gives it a try:

Dear Pacific Rim fandom,

We have already claimed “Science Bros” for the epic brotp that is Bruce Banner and Tony Stark (which is to be distinguished from Science Husbands, which is the epic otp that is Bruce Banner and Tony Stark). Please cease and desist from using it for your own purposes.

Yes, apparently The Avengers Fandom elected iamsomanythings to speak for them.

daftpunkdelorean decides that the Bruce/Tony fans should do the Newt/Hermann fans a favor and give them a new ship name. "Okay, I’m thinking we should all collectively help the Newt/Hermann shippers come up with a clever name for the ship."

Unfortunately, they don't seem to want to use it. Maybe if she says it enough times, they will?

Then dont-play-well threatens "If I have to block too many people I will start to tag my Avengers shit with Pacific Rim just to annoy you, just because I can…"

chernosaralpha, telling Avengers fandom that they can't own a tag, decides to get personal about Tony and Bruce aren't really bros. "Nuclear physics and mechanical engineering are incredibly different from each other, and Tony’s friendship with Bruce is so highly conditional that Tony is fine with shooting Bruce into outer space. Hardly what I’d call bros." (Much to the bemusement of those who have only seen the movies and haven't read the comic where that happened.)

Meanwhile, dimensionexplosion has the temerity to squee about a Newt/Hermann (or Newt & Hermann) relevant passage... on a post tagged science bros.

Since all's fair in love and tag wars, Bruce Banner fan lady-yuna decides to rain on that parade in a post tagged "fuck it I'm tagging this, Science Bros, Pacific Rim, now shoo already the lot of you":

Soooo I take it that even though the “Pacific Rim Science Bros” fandom likes to use an excerpt or two from the novel as relationship canon fodder, none of them want to admit that Hermann Gottlieb is married and is expecting a child?

fidefortitude, among others, wonders why everyone can't just get along, since they all like bros and science.

Meanwhile, the "science bros" tag is picspammed with other pairs of bros who do science, including

What I still don't really get is why "bro" would be any part of a hotly contested ship name unless it was, like, Weasleycest vs. Wincest. Yeah, I know it's evolved away from its roots, but it still sounds/looks like a family relationship to me....

Many of them are using it for both pairs as a platonic relationship, but some are confusingly using it for slash shipping. Oddly, this is the one thing that doesn't seem to have caused wank.

It usually (and I say 'usually' in the case of Marvel ship logic) follows the following guidelines:

~paring name~ Bros - platonic
~paring name~ Boyfriends - dating/romancing/shipy stuff
~paring name~ Husbands - married with children

And they all usually bleed over but no one really gets fussy about it.

Sometimes I think tmblr tags were invented just so the rest of the internet could have something to be amused by. I wonder what these people would think if they googled their own, presumbaly common names. "I can't believe someone else is using Jane Smith! I clearly told her I was using it first, and suggested Janet Smith to her instead. Why hasn't she stopped?!"

I give it eight months before a semi-serious attempt to get everyone using a version of the Dewey Decimal system for tags starts, and three hours after that for it to fall flat on its face when 612.616 becomes hotly contested.

I just want the Gundam Wing/Doctor Who crossover series that pairs everyone up by their respective numbers and tags it as 1x1, 2x2, 3x3, 4x4, 5x5, etc. And then I want the GW fans to freak the fuck out and argue over whether it should be 5x5 or 5x5 until people start tagging it as 5x5x5 instead, and then all the tags would have to be changed to 1x1x1, 2x2x2, 3x3x3, 4x4x4, etc. IT WOULD BE AMAZING.

Anything you reblog doesn't show up in 'real' tags anyway. Only the first five tags of an original post show up in tag searches.

I've had people come to my tumblr upset because I used the "space husbands" tag for my other ships spock/mccoy and kirk/mccoy instead of just kirk/spock. I had one friend use "science bros" for spock/mccoy and got flamed. I had the whole tumblr tag claiming thing. I've seen some use space husbands for q/picard and a ds9 couple. Super husbands can mean anyone. Calm down tumblr.

Well, in fairness, before Pacific Rim even released Marvel comics had put out a storyline in Avengers Assemble that was focused primarily on Bruce Banner and Tony Stark that was titled "Science Bros" in an obvious nod to the fandom, so the name is somewhat canon.

...that being said, they still sound like a bunch of entitled morons. Shipping is serious business, ya'll.

Well, there were the Blade and Elektra movies--although those predate the Grand Unified All-Roads-Lead-To-SHIELD-And-Avengers-Mansion MCU.

(A tangentially related thought: given that Misty Knight got her prosthetic arm from Tony Stark--and therefore has a degree of connection--we can has Daughters of the Dragon movie? Perhaps directed by Quentin Tarantino or RZA?)

I searched the Faye Valentine tag on tumblr the other day and found out there's a popular porn actress who used to go by that name. (I believe she now goes by Faye Regan?)

Of course I also got Cowboy Bebop porn, so one way or the other I just have to remember not to do that at the library.
