I love (or am just ... currently using and therefore resigned to what's available) the Vita and I wouldn't recommend buying it until/unless there's a serious change in game development and offerings. It's neither here nor there: not a solid mobile gaming console, not enough long-form games, and not enough games, period, combined with the few games available being massively overpriced. Plus membership got me a free copy of Gods Eater Burst, which is one of the rare legit games available (as many hundreds of hours of gameplay as you want, plot, actual difficulty, etc.). Naturally, the DLC doesn't work.

Then again, I just got a used PS3 last week and while I'm impressed by the shiny, I have no plans to ditch my PS2 and its fabulous "load disc, begin playing immediately" advantage. I'm pretty behind the times, gaming-wise.

All things considered, as much as I love the Vita as a machine, I wish I'd gone with the 3DS. There are far more games on offer (including ones that I want!) for the 3DS, so I know it would have been more expensive -- console + games vs. the cost of the Vita and the four or so games I've bought since May. If I'm ever able to afford a next-gen DS and I'm able to get started on the games available, I wonder how much use I'll have for the Vita. The memory card limitation (4GB? Are you kidding me?) is a huge limitation if you don't want to spend even more cash because Sony said so.

Fate/extra and GEB are solid titles; I... had problems with VLR (999 is the superior offering by far); and I hate P4 Golden with the fire of a thousand suns. (I also had problems with Persona 3 Portable because all difficulty was removed. I AM ACTUALLY TRYING TO DIE AND THE GAME WON'T LET ME.) So I like two PSP ports, wouldn't recommend or replay two of the new titles for the Vita... and the rest of the games are mostly platformers or 29.99 RPGs with no demo. The DS used market looks appealing from here, as even though some games will be download only, there are still plenty of major titles to be had for a fair used price when you look at the DS and 3DS market combined.

The Japanese Vita market is supposed to be amazing and there are LPs of some awesome games out there, but unless you want to use a LP or play blind, it's a no-go (assuming you can find a way to get those games in the first place).
