It's not FOR you, Jen
Nintendo set the Internet afire yesterday with the announcement of a (mostly expected) $50.00 price cut on the Wii U, three different ways to buy Wind Waker (including one with a Ganon action figure)
and oh yeah

They are planning to release a new redesign of the 3DS called a "2DS" on the same day of Pokemon X and Y. It's only $130.00 and looks like a tablet. Supposedly this version is aimed at people who don't want to use the 3D and for children lower than seven years of age.

Which naturally means that the Internet collectively loses their bananas.

Responses range from:
I don't get it
to it's ugly and who is it aimed at
to complaining about complaining about the 2DS is prejudice
SHUT UP AND STOP COMPLAINING IT'S NOT FOR YOU
and SCUZE ME WHERE IS MY 5DS NOW (I like this one a lot)
seriously this is dumb

The biggest trolling went on Nintendo's YouTube page, as trolls and critics went directly to the source. Hence why the announcement is now not showing ratings nor allowing comments (warning: loud 8-bit music).

You can browse the 2DS tumblr tags for more.

Luckily, Iwata and Black Nerd Rants seem to have explained the matter, as the anger has (mostly) quieted down now.

I mostly want a Vita for the Ys IV port coming out in... whenever the heck it's finally coming out. I'll do pretty much anything for Ys games in English. That and there's a Japanese Gundam SEED game that has the sidestory cast in it and it's only about $40 on Amazon (and probably cheaper on eBay - import games really aren't as difficult to get as they used to be and my Japanese is rudimentary but I'm learning). Like the PSP, which I got at launch and had to wait a good long time to get a collection going, I'm sure the Vita will pick up during its lifetime. (I see a Dangan Ronpa localization up for pre-order on Amazon!)

I have pretty much everything up through the 3DS, though I'm not an early-adopter like I used to be. I'm more grabbing systems once they drop enough that I can handle the purchase and keep eating. I suspect my PS4 purchase will come many years from now (though mostly because I'm just chipping into my PS3 library now -- nevermind that the PS2 is the one hooked up to the TV at present).

Dude, are you me?

I've got a rule of thumb for any new gaming system that comes out -- there needs to be at least three titles, bare minimum, that I'm willing to drop the bucks for before I'll actually invest in the system. (I would normally say five, but I will be the first person to admit that I will drop the cash for a Vita ON THE SPOT if Square-Enix announces a Dissidia game for that platform.) There has to be enough of a library out there that I think it'll be worth my while, from a gameplay POV, to put that kind of money into something like that.

...and my PS2 is what's hooked up right now too. I may or may not be running Persona 4 on rush mode to get a shit-ton of yen via the Pringles King exploit in prep for my second run-through.

I used to have a job where I made too much money (or perhaps just worked too many hours to spend what I was making) and bought the last round of systems not long after they came out. For the PS3, especially, this meant that I actually at one point went a couple of years without turning it on. Now it's really in its prime and I'm glad I have it, but yeah... lesson learned. I had similar thoughts on requirements before I plunked down cash for the Vita, but 'localized Ys game' was pretty much the lone exception and somehow that's happened.

I'm playing Jak & Daxter for the first time. I've heard so many good things about the series and had picked up the trilogy from various bargain bins over the last few years but never had a chance to play.

I'm usually well behind the console gaming times -- but a lot of this is me relying on my hardcore gamer brothers to help me know what's worth getting and what's worth passing over. Every now and then it turns on its head. (Like my brother stealing my old-school DS Lite from me because of its GBA port and trying to tell me he intends to steal my PSP because I have Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions on it.) The Final Fantasy series is my downfall; Dissidia was what made me break down and buy a PSP and if anything can get me to get a Vita, it's that. Eyeing the PS4 purely because of FFXV. I'm that pathetic.

I'm a latecomer to the SMT games, but I played Persona 3 Portable and got hardcore addicted and P4 is just delightful. I may plow my way through the whole series at this rate.
