His argument assumes that the retail market is a stable, known entity and that authors are competing for different groups within that market. Of course, it doesn't actually work like that and that's what Ringo's afraid of -- if sci-fi readers dramatically increase and people who might have avoided the genre due to sexism, racism, etc., become the majority of sci-fi readers, then Ringo will be marginalized not because of the liberal elite but because his books are bad.
Did he work on the Romney campaign? He's got their brand of stupid.
