"Cara was one of the first fanfic authors to write addressing the main character[...]" What the hell? That shit was happening well before Twilight was one of Meyer's wet dreams. I hate it, personally, but I was certainly aware of that kind of thing being pretty damn common a long-ass time ago. Also, if I write Sherlock fanfiction, does that mean I'm wearing Arthur Conan Doyle's underwear after Steve Moffat's been wearing them? They're deceptively comfy, if that's the case. I just don't get this sort of plagiarism. I mean, all of it is stupid and makes me want to lock up plagiarists until they write something actually original, but when they copy wholesale with a find-and-replace or something like that, well, obviously that's just laziness and relying on someone else's work. Picking out individual passages that aren't on their own amazing work just seems like a lot of effort and looking like a cheap asshole for very little payoff. Post a comment in response: |
