I ignore any Pokemon purists who get snooty about how anyone could possibly play the game without resetting a thousand times for the best nature and blah blah stats blah. I've been playing the games since the original Blue and Red and I still form my teams based on a combination of having the right mix of types in order to balance strengths vs. weaknesses...and which Pokemon are the cutest. (Current example: my team in X right now has a Dedenne in it. I know it's yet another one of those Pikachu clones that probably have shit stats and I don't care cause it knocks stuff out when I tell it to and it's adorable. And way better than that little fucker Emolga.)
