Yeah, that's basically my approach.
Dedenne is totally adorable! I have an Umbreon even though another Dark type would probably be a much better idea but I love Umbreon so I have one. And I have a Floette on my team because she's adorable -- I realize you trip over a Flabébé in the tall grass every five minutes so they're not a big deal Pokemon but still, she knocks out Dragon types and Dark types and that works for me. I'm just reluctant to evolve her because she'll become less cute, but I will when I have to.
(I also keep evolving Sylveons just to trade them because I'm addicted to that yarn-ball-to-the-head game. Sorry, I don't know what it's called in English because I decided to practice my German by playing the game in German.)
