I will also add that (to me at least) the level-up and move system is far less confusing in Pokemon. They are set levels for moves and you don't have to worry about what monsters you mix together to get a surprise creature - you just evolve and you're set.
Unless you get into breeding. Then all sorts of crazy things pop up but it's still somewhat clear-cut about inheritance systems.
