This reminds me of the episode of Friends where Joey comes on at Chandler's workplace for some reason I've forgotten and he invents a whole fictional life, complete with fictional fiance. When this gets out of hand Chandler shouts, middle of the argument, "Yeah, well I'm banging your fiance. That's right, I have her panties in my desk right now." Joey, wide-eyed, "You do?" Chandler, screaming, "No, because she's fictional you freak!" I really, really want to scream the last part at shippers who take things too seriously.
