I've always felt that that attitude is a sign that the person isn't writing because they love it or because they have to, but because they want attitude and ass pats. I hate to use myself as an example, but I've been working on a huge Supernatural AU that I feel is the best stuff I've written maybe ever, and after 120,000 words I've gotten maybe three people who've given feedback. It gets me down a little sometimes, but I keep writing because even if I never get any more feedback, I'm having a damn good time.

Holding stories/series hostage just makes me want to stop reading them, no matter how good they might be.
