Typesetting isn't usually too perilous (if you've got a license for Garamond or Palatino Linotype, you're half way there) but I have seen professional publications where the differential between the tracking (spacing between all characters) and the space characters was so small, that it was nearly impossible to discern where one word ended and another began.
I'm more concerned that the trimming and gutters will go horribly awry, though, because that can take more proofing to get right, whereas it tends to be immediately apparent when typesetting is off.
