From what I can tell the show itself is fine - especially as there really aren't any other popular CW shows besides Vampire Diaries.
That said the fandom is now incredibly segmented via LJ, Tumblr, forums, etc. and even MORE segmented with Destiel / Dean fans / Sam fans / Castiel fans. And while it's not overt, I think there is less crossover now that the angst and brother-blaming is a major plot point.
Which both hurts and helps Andy and his clique.
