Entry tags:all hail the new troll king, at least no one's knotting, authors, bitter so bitter, books/authors, burn baby burn, but what are your thoughts on otps?, canon fodder, community: oh no they didn't, fan rage, fan theories, fandom: harry potter, harmonians, jkr doesn't know harry potter like i do, my dream wedding destroyed, person: jkr, potter fandom will not be outwanked!, she admitted it!, this is the wank that never ends, too many fucking tags, troll

These things really do go in cycles...
c/p'd from Mousie's hard work:

Emma Watson is guest editing a British magazine that comes out on Thursday.

In it, supposedly JK Rowling shares her regret for making a certain pairing canon over another one.

Nowadays she admits she got it wrong - she should have shipped Harry / Hermione.

ONTD jumps on the bandwagon first with predictable splooge. 2600+ comments and gong. Wank_report anonymouse captured their favorites:

Ron's an asshole! No, Hermione's abusive!

Someone mentions Hermione/Draco, spawning a thread about whether Draco is an irredeemable racist. Bonus: passive-aggressive use of "gurl". I guess it's the new "sweetie"? http://ohnotheydidnt.livejournal.com/85367803.html?thread=14993142779#t14993142779

I'm...not even sure what's happening in this thread. But I know I can't look away.

You see, the way I read it, she's not even saying she should have shipped Harry/Hermione. She's saying the way she wrote the story leaned more that direction.

On the other hand, I really do prefer Hermione and Ron. The amount of tropes subverted were awesome. (Also, I still can't see where anybody gets Harry and Hermione from. But, you know, whatever.)

I'm not sure R/H would have worked out long-term, but H/Hr makes even less sense, as they never displayed the barest hint of attraction to each other despite being hormone-riddled teens. Harry's relationship with Hermione always reminded me of me and my brother - different approaches and driving each other up the wall sometimes, but still sharing a deep familial love that will always be a constant in your life.

In my opinion, all the trio's relationships with each other were much more meaningful as friendships anyway.

Right? Even if Ron and Hermione wouldn't work out (which I don't think is true, I just think there was a huge chunk of DH where Ron wasn't there that makes the Harry/Hermione relationship look a little played up), Harry and Hermione just… are not into each other at all and never, ever behaved as if they were. I mean, ever. They are very close friends who need each other in their lives but have no romantic interest.

Closest thing I remember was that kiss on the cheek from the end of Goblet of Fire. That could easily be one of the following:

* A friendly/family-ish kiss
* Hermione trying to sort out her feelings towards Harry/her feelings in general and using the scientific method to figure it out ("I kissed him and it didn't make me tingle all over, therefore I only have friendly feelings towards him" or similar)
* Me remembering completely wrong

What stuck out to me was in I think the fourth book where Harry is genuinely shocked at the idea people though he and Hermione were a couple. Like it never even occurred to him until someone pointed it out, and even then he couldn't believe it.

Yeah, JKR would have to have written more build-up for H/Hr, like the hints she did with R/Hr. And damn, were they hints: I didn't notice Ron balling up his fists to punch Malfoy when he hoped that Hermione would die next in CoS, while Harry was just standing there pretending to be Crabbe (or Goyle).

I can kind of see how someone could read attraction on Hermione's side, but it's pretty unambiguously friendship only on Harry's, IMO.

Yeah, that's exactly what she said. The way some people are talking, though, you'd think she'd shot their dogs and punched their mothers. It's just literary wank, ffs.

I liked the way Harry and Hermione had a sort of sympatico in action situations. They did it for me. Dunno why. *shrugs*

I kind of read it as saying she doesn't think R/Hr will work out as the happiest most perfect couple ever, or even a very functional one, which I suppose is fair enough. I think she should've overall questioned her choice in making everybody "together forever" types of couples, since very rarely in real life do people settle down for good at age 17.

Hermione and Ron together always reminded me of my parents' dynamic: mam is hyper-organised and book-obsessed with a tendency to over-react, my father is laid-back and lazy and sociable.

They got together at eighteen/nineteen (in college), married at twenty/twenty-one, and have been married (and squabbling) for thirty-seven years and counting.

So yeah, it can work.

...I've just realized that Ron basically married his mother. Which is kind of what they say guys do. Or look for, at least.

Yep! His mam doesn't have Hermione's ambition, or drive to change the world. But Hermione and Molly have a lot more in common than they lack.
