c/p'd from Mousie's hard work:

Emma Watson is guest editing a British magazine that comes out on Thursday.

In it, supposedly JK Rowling shares her regret for making a certain pairing canon over another one.

Nowadays she admits she got it wrong - she should have shipped Harry / Hermione.

ONTD jumps on the bandwagon first with predictable splooge. 2600+ comments and gong. Wank_report anonymouse captured their favorites:

Someone mentions Hermione/Draco, spawning a thread about whether Draco is an irredeemable racist. Bonus: passive-aggressive use of "gurl". I guess it's the new "sweetie"? http://ohnotheydidnt.livejournal.com/85367803.html?thread=14993142779#t14993142779

Believe it or not, a link to it showed up on my Twitter feed and as soon as I read it I thought "Oh, man, the wank's gonna hit the fan any second now..."

Harry/Ginny always felt more forced to me than Hermione/Ron did. I didn't see them as incompatible, just that the run up to it felt way too sudden. I wonder if she expresses any regrets about that in the full interview.

This. I think she probably focuses on Hermione in the interview, though, since she's being interviewed by Emma Watson.

This is my exact problem with Harry/Ginny. Harry/Ginny was always the one that felt like it was happening because that's how JKR planned it from the start, and that's it.

At least with Ron and Hermione we got to see them interact and their relationship grow from book one steadily on. Which is why I really have no problem with them as a couple, even though I don't really ship them.

But, when she isn't being used in the background to fill out the world, Ginny pretty much disappears for most of the books in the series until the end of book five, and barely interacts with Harry when she does show up. (Even after she supposedly got over her tounge-tied fangirling of him). The hook-up happens in book six, but then what happens? She disappears again for almost all of the final book.

Harry is my favorite character in the series, but I don't think indifference is how I'm supposed to feel about the person he ended up with. But indifferent it pretty much how I feel about Ginny, and Harry's relationship with her.

That's very true. I don't care about ships in Harry Potter, but I always got the people who complained that BAM! Unexpected Ginny out of nowhere! I like Ginny as a character (for what we know about her) and I would have liked to see more of her rather than be told about her when she needed to be there. People care about Hermione because she's present in the story from beginning to end, and develops over time. Ginny seems static because she can't be there, and if somebody were shipping characters, I can see how she'd be easy to overlook as a possibility for the main character.

I doubt it, even though I agree with you. She always seemed super-invested in Harry/Ginny, and basically brought R/Hr together because I think she felt obligated to, by dropping such heavy hints they would. I still don't understand why everybody has to marry and then have kids and never ever break up, though. Does Wizarding world not have divorce courts?

THIS was my big beef with the end of the story. You can grow up, not marry, not have kids, be successful and be happy. It's not a moral abnormality to be single and content. I kinda felt throughout the books that Harry would have been better off like that, personally... not that he would be a bad husband or that no woman was worthy of him, just that he was apart from them just enough to never quite fully fit in... if that makes sense? You can have a lot of good close friendships without ever finding a soulmate, and there's nothing wrong with that. For some reason, Harry kinda gave me that vibe. I know he was just a child-turned-teenager throughout the books, but... him in the epilogue unmarried would have not upset me at all.

But I guess then JKR couldn't have Harry name a son after Dumbledore and Snape without having him hook up with a girl, and the hook-up better be FOREVER because morality (can you imagine how much of a witch-hunt JKR would've gotten from outraged parents of underaged readers if she'd had Harry have a child out of wedlock?)

That whole epilogue just soured the book for me, honestly. I liked it up until the end... that ending just really sat wrong with me.

And now I want to see the one where Harry doesn't get married but decides instead to raise a whole bunch of war orphans. Because damned if there aren't more than a few.

My thing about that is though, I DO think the thing Harry wanted most was a family. Because his parents were killed when he was just a baby and because the Dursley's never gave even an ounce of affection I think, above all, he just wanted a family of his own where he could receive the love he clearly felt he was missing, especially for the first 10 years of his life.

So I actually don't think Harry would have been happy never having a family of his own. I actually think it would have hurt him quite a lot really.

My headcanon has always had Harry as a stay at home dad while Ginny is out being awesome elsewhere (usually with Luna as her partner in crime), for all of those reasons.

Fourth-ing the bit about wishing Harry/Ginny had had more build-up. Specifically on Harry's end. I think most of the people I've talked to about that have all argued at first that there was LOTS of buildup before HBP haven't really argued when I point out that all of that buildup was completely one-sided from Ginny's end.
