Well, it does bother me that "vampires sparkling" is supposed to be some kind of supreme indictment of the series. We've had so many takes on monsters before without anyone raising a fuss, what does it matter that these ones sparkle? Except oh, wait - if they sparkle they're for girls and that makes them uncool and we can't have that now, can we?
