A very small wank
OMG WTF please don't tell me the characters are wearing *real clothes* in the next Harry Potter movie! That's so heinously un-canon!

Bonus to longlivethecow for supersizing this regular wank.

*spooge*

And I have now lost my f_w virginity, have made my very first wank post. Whee!

PoA is the book that I'd say has the biggest waffling about whether they're wearing muggle clothes - canonically - of them all. I mean, who knows what they're wearing during the Sirius/Pettigrew/Lupin incident? Nor do I remember it being specifically defined (other than classes, during which they'd have to wear robes, right?) during each scene what they're wearing.

the point? shut the fuck up until you see the movie. rumor is not good enough to wank on.

In the next book, Rowling should have multiple-page-long, excruciatingly detailed descriptions of everyone's wardrobe, hair, teeth, cologne/perfume/deodorant, and fingernails, so that there is never any confusion again. Obviously, this is the only way to make the book!fans and the movie!fans get along in harmony.

Trust me-- even if Rowlings had decided to do that, some crazed fans would still misinterpret her words and "sexify" some of her uglier and more irritating characters (Snape, Draco, etc.) And if that didn't hold, they'd just invoke the old "The Power of Love Will Clean Your Dirty Ass Up" cliche (often set to spectacular effect with Snape. ::shudder::)

What? You mean that Snape's greasy hair isn't from it hanging over his stewing potions? His callow skin a result of working dedicatingly on his beloved potions? Yellow teeth just in need of a good brushin' because he spends all his time on his beloved potions so he can help Teh Light? TELL ME IT'S NOT TRUE!

Yes, Sajasma, there is such a thing as a simple lack of personal hygiene.

Gosh I hope not. I get enough of that in HP fic as it is.

...Considering Herm and Harry have muggle guardians, and Ron's dad has quite an interest in muggles...I DON'T think there's much of a contradiction if the kids are wearing regular clothes.

In short: Houston, we have a "Bitch, please" emergency. (Though, the person who pointed out that Harry would just have Dudley's old clothes is right...I think.)

Well Harry is pretty darn rich, he could simply just buy his own clothes.

My fave part had to be the person claiming that after spending a school year at Hogwarts Hermione would forget how to dress!

Well, I know that after a year at a boarding school with a uniform policy, I DEFINATELY forgot how to put on jeans and tie sneakers. I mean, my mother held up a T-shirt and I was like "What the shit is this thing, mom? Bring me something button-down with a blazer, because I dunno what that thing is, but it sure isn't clothes!"

...Or maybe not.

Oh, you're so right! I went to a private day-school until 9th grade, and my fashion-sense is *still* suffering. :)

"My fave part had to be the person claiming that after spending a school year at Hogwarts Hermione would forget how to dress!"

Ditto. I mean, lord knows that during Christmas and summer vacations, Hermione never interacts with the rest of society, never goes outside, and never watches TV or reads magazines or newspapers.

I mean, she's a geek, but she's not a paranoid recluse or a "Harry Potter" fan something.

And it's not like the students who have no idea how Muggle fashion works can't ASK another student, a parent, or a relative how it goes.

Heee. I totally agree with you, but considering the examples of attempted-Muggle-dressing in GoF, I would LOVE to see Ron attempting to dress to go out somewhere with Harry and Hermione. That would amuse me greatly.

"Ron, for the last time, you *cannot* wear the legwarmers. ...who GAVE those to you, anyway?"

"I said a pair of blue jeans, not--what is that embroidery? Is that a *walrus?*"

"TAKE OFF THE HAT. NOW. Harry, I told you to keep him away from headgear! --I SAID NOW."

Also considering that Mrs. Weasley knits a jumper/sweater for all her kids every Christmas, I'd say that the Weasleys have a pretty good chance of at least having some form of passing knowledge with Muggle clothes...

I'm STILL trying to figure out how the pink hooded sweater Hermione's wearing is 'hip and trendy'. Has there been a fashion revolution i am not aware of?

Erm... I think I can answer this one, embarassingly enough.

Hoodies and sports outfits (track suits, sports jerseys, etc.) are now considered popular because theya are a recent trend (among American teenagers, at least). This was especially popularized by Jennifer Lopez and P. Diddy, as well as the rising catchet of sports stars.

That might be the "trend" that people are referring to.

Well, that just changes my whole perspective on this muggle clothes thing. They're right, how dare Hermione be wearing trendy clothing! *gets machete and joins hunt for Cuaron's head*

[/sarcasm]

Sorry, all this whining about the kids wearing muggle clothes is driving me nuts.

Well I kinda agree about the pink hoodie, not so much because I think it's OOC, it's just I think it's NOT a good look for the actress.

She's cute but pink really is not a color that looks good on her.

Of course I'm not gonna skip, or start bashing the movie because of this.

Every time this particular flavor of wank comes up, I am utterly tempted to ignore the fact that I hate pink and make an icon out of the photo with Hermione. One that says "My fandom wears pink."
