sorry, I just had to go back
Following up on Garochi and Greekhoop reports, it appears that kittydesade has yet more to add to her ongoing campaign against bad non-con, bondage, kink, slash, het, yaoi etc, etc, etc online.

Except that I did have this wonderful idea... leak to the few newsfeeds I can (local newspapers, CNN...) about what the US's and maybe some other countries' thirteen to eighteen year olds are doing. What they're writing about, what they're reading. And watch as hundreds of thousands of parents all over the world go "AAAUGH!" and yank their kids' internet privilidges.

Except I couldn't do that, because lots of innocents would get caught in the crossfire. Bleh.

Well, *wooo* puts hand to heart, lucky for us she decided to hold back. Will nobody think of the innocents...oh wait...

"Amazingly I feel so much better. I've gotten all that out, and hopefully I've made some people think. And probably I've just gotten a bunch of people to go "Hey. Thank god I'm not the only one."

Gee...I'm so glad she feels better now. Why is it that some people really think it's their mission in life to tell other people how and what to write, think, do, feel, etc?

As far as PWP's and poorly written fic, I have a theory. The first fanfic I ever wrote was absolutely dreadful...and so were the next ones, (when I read them now I cringe) but there was a progression...gradually I learned how to phrase things better, take care with phrasing...and yes, learn how to write something other than PWP's. The earliest fics were clumsy because I was *learning*..and I think it's likely the way a lot of people learn to write. I've been out of school for...a number of years *ahem* and my skills were rusty at best...but practice does pay off. I'm not saying I'm a world class writer but I know I'm a whole hell of a lot better five years down the road than I was when I first decided to try my hand at a fanfic.

*stepping down from my creaky soapbox*

Of course....there's always THIS< Kittydesade...If you don't like it, DON'T READ IT. Duh.

But don't you see, she WANTS to save us from the evils of rape-fiction, BDSM etc. Obviously her way is the right way.

Except the bit where she thinks all of us teenies, disturbed.

Okay, this down-with-PWP is a bit of a hot button for me. I believe wholeheartedly that a well-written PWP can be a pure, visceral, beautiful thing that shows you depths of a character that you might not have even suspected existed. My main beef with this kittydesade chick (as it is with all the detractors of the form) is the belief that somehow sexuality isn't 'lofty' enough to be written about, like somehow one of the purest, most vital drives of the human species is somehow an unworthy thing to explore. W.T.F?! I believe that Truth is found in moments -- any SORT of moments. The moment of orgasm, the moment of loss, the moment of spiritual revelation. The kind of moment doesn't matter. It's those concentrated little spans of heartbeats when your world changes for good or ill that matter.

Erm. Sorry to rant. Not ranting at you, just...grr. It's been building up since I first saw this girl's diatribe yesterday. I think she needs to buy herself a stack of porn and a vibrator, and get over herself. Her repression is showing.

Word. I don't care if something is a PWP or even something that squicks me... if it's good writing and it interests me I'm probably going to give it a read. Yeah some PWPs are terribly written but that's because of the author writing it, not the type of story.

This poor girl managed to exist for so long--she is a dinosaur, I hear--without ever realizing what "PWP" means? Sad.

I honestly can't tell what she's getting so rabid about. It's writing, it's fiction, she sure as hell doesn't have to read the plotless stories if she doesn't want to. If people were actually out there raping, then comfort fucking, then raping, then comfort fucking, that would be cause for concern. As it is, someone writing out an inept and plotless power exchange fantasy hardly seems reason to run to the Powers That Be and tattle about fanfiction.

As if they didn't already know all about it.

*sigh* She makes me tired, this Kitty de Sade person or whatever her name is. Seems to me like a bitter old fandom queen cloaking her vitriol in concern for the psyches of the poor wee fanfiction writers who'll read *gasp* plotless non-con and be scarred for life. Whatever.

Who to the what, now? BOFQ status has nothing to do with chronological age or musical taste. Symptoms of this state include: rants starting with the phrase "back in MY day" or the equivalent; whining about the whippersnapper upstarts who are Ruining The Fandom; bitching about the shitty fic that gets all the feedback; and a complete lack of humor about fandom and fic in general.

I'd say she qualifies handily, actually. And so do I, on at least a couple of the counts. *grin*

{See, you are what you read and write. Science has proven this. I could probably dig up the studies if someone wants, but it's been recently confirmed that the more you use your brains and the more you keep mentally active, the more fit your brain is. You are what you think, and if all this hideously bad smut and scary rape fic is symptomatic of what people think, then dear god. The next generation of workers is going straight to the porn industry.}

So a person's entire personality is defined by the porn they read? Okay....

Then I MUST be a beautiful young boy with an invisible penis, or I'm powerful Vampire lord under the control of the last Hellsing, or perhaps I'm a cute 11 year old girl with magic powers and a hot gay brother, or the reincarnation of an angel destined to save the world!

Fucking shit, she's making a leap there.

According to recent studies, the more you keep mentally active, the healthier your brain is, yes. The less likely you're going to suffer from some of the effects of aging, yes.

Any type of thinking/mental exercise that builds and uses neurons is going to contribute to a healthier brain. As long as it's keeping your brain active and engaged, writing and reading smut is going to contribute to a healthier brain. Probably the more creative the smut, the more you used your brain while reading or writing it.

'Immoral' thoughts don't make 'immoral' neurons. Neurons don't care what you're thinking, as long as you're thinking.

Well, to be fair, judging by what CNN has been showing lately (World News = News from America and whatever country is hosting the Evil Regime of the Week, apparently), I can see how she'd get confused into thinking that a story about the EVALS of slash fanfiction and PWP could be picked up on their radar.
