Which way did he go, George? Which way did he go?
You'd think that an instance of plagiarism where the original author's email is still attached to the fic would be a cut and dried case, right?

Not if you're these folks, it's not.

I was counting down the seconds until this one got here. Heh.

It's frikkin' hilarious, in a kind of Eee! Plagiarsm! way. I love the efforts they all go to, like "change your password to prove it, woman!" and "she didn't just copy it cuz she has it IN HANDWRITING!!!! Umm, yeah. And?

Memo to Manic Inquisitor folks:

If you want to save face and retain ANY iota of dignity just take the story down and apologize.

It doesn't matter if this Sam person donated both kidneys to starving African children, she still did a stupid thing.

Also if this is an actual magazine you DO realize that you could get into a LOT of trouble for publishing plagiarized work?

And hemming, hawing and wringing hands is NOT gonna make the issue magically disappear or make the story be any plagiarized.

From F_W.

At the very bottom of the comments in the first link to the ezboard, it says that the piece has been taken down pending investigation--during which hopefully the people in charge will GET THEIR HEADS OUT OF THEIR ASSES.

I loved they way the 'apologized' "Please stop hasseling us", not 'We're sorry', or anything like that just them telling folks to stop calling them on their shit.

Who RUNS this magazine anyway, a group of 12 year olds?

I have NO idea but I think you have the right idea, based on a) how they run things, and b) the fact that they can't even spell "hassling" right.

Hey, how do I submit a story to their Ezine? I mean, yeah, *technically* it's an early draft of the script for the first X-Men movie, but I handwrote it on notebook paper, so that makes it OK, right?

Ever so much easier than coming up with my own ideas.

Man... the lengths they're all going to in order to preserve "Sam's" reputation here... Maybe it was a troll! Maybe it was an internet virus! Maybe it was midichlorians!

And my favourite...

This is probably old and unremarked by now, but after someone kindly pointed out that another work by the same "author" is also probably stolen stolen, one of the editors replied with a defensive capslocked rant about how it's a bullshit conspiracy and everyone is mean and hates them and why don't we leave them alone????//?

Though it was thoughtfully given a disclaimer about it not being "written with the views of the staff". Man, if fanfiction wasn't such a grey area they'd be so sued. *sniff*

One of the truly impressive things about this wank is the rebound wank it's inspired (see: SisterWine, et al.). Yes, stealing another fanfic author's work is heinous. Yes, the perpetrator should be penalized according to community standards. No, you can't sue someone for stealing a story using someone else's "borrowed" copyrighted characters.

When you're already right, it's a good idea to avoid overstating your case.

Did anyone see that it's now been revealed that as well as plagiarising slash authors, she's ripped off whole articles from, among others, the BBC, Ananova and Reuters with no accreditation?

Now, no one can sue for fanfic, but I bet these guys could ::veg::

Oh, I've just spotted this while copying the previous URL! Apparently 'Sam', the little plagiarist, is dating one of the editors. Which does go a long way to explaining why they didn't instantly take the plagiarised material down and accused Azurine instead of being the plagiarist.

Oh, this is just classic!

Quick, someone help me out here. Does this little fact turn this into a Wank x 2, or a Wank x 3?

In the strictest of bookkeeping interests, of course.

Okay, for some reason the URL has changed (probably because I copied the 'show next topic' URL and someone has snuck another topic in there :)) so here's one I would hope would remain static, linking to the same thing I noted above - namely the relationship between the plagiarist and one of the editorial team:
