I'm so sick of all that nasty slash!
This came across the Fast And The Furious slash list - I think it's wanky.

Slash is eval and sexual orientation is set in stone and Aragorn is not gay and neither are Vin Diesel or Paul Walker. So there!

*secretly wonders if there are any shots of Vin Diesel in the pink button-down shirt on the web - because Vin's skin tone + pink makes me feel rather warm...*

Well, I did a fair bit of research into Vin since I played him in the Est, and believe it or not there is some evidence that he is in fact gay. *snerk* I personally couldn't care less, but I think it'd frost so many cookies so beautifully if he was that I would giggle in girlish delight for weeks. Wow, is that a before-coffee sentence or what?

And, hello...there was more chemistry between Vin and Paul Walker in that film (with the tossing around and snarling and oh-you-foul-betrayer-ness) than there was with any of the girls.

But what pisses me off about this chick is her assumption that simply because Vin is a big and strong and grrr, he couldn't POSSIBLY BE GAY! Because gay men are all mincing fairies!!

I wish I *knew* what greater piece of pornographic art this came from, but as I downloaded it, it was one of those montage scenes that's all pieced together with a vague sort of theme. Which of course makes identification a pain in the ass. If you want to know what the name of it is, email me at ailei @ texas . net and I'll be happy to tell you. Even I am not shameless enough to discuss my pr0n downloading on JF. *grinblush*

'Evidence' in the form of hearsay and rumour, but apparently he's seen with men more than women, and it's one of those 'open secrets' that proliferate on the set. For instance, there's a story that he had to seriously psych himself out to do his sex scenes in xXx, particularly the kisses with Asia Argento (porn star name or what?!). It's fluffy stuff, mostly, but there is a LOT of it, and it seems to be an insider industry accepted thing. I think it's a rather charming notion.

She made a couple of valid points until the actor and his pink shirt. It was all waaaaay downhill from there.

And honestly? FF.N needs all the slash it gets. Because Mary Sue needs a vacation, that poor girl. Look at her! She had huge rings beneath those lovely violet eyes ...

So no cookie for the FF.N-based slash complaining either.

*shrug* It's her archive, and her reasons don't strike me, frankly, as wanky as that post about why yaoi is so much better than slash.

Yeah, I felt the same way, although the assumption that Vin Diesel is NOT gay was pretty wanky. The pink shirt line was too stupid for words.

Some of her points were valid (and I LIKE slash) but like someone said, after the line about the pink shirt, it went downhill from there. :P

And they even use backslashes as to not sully the platonic friendships of female \ female or male \ male, not to mention rant \ explanation.

Oh, a few good points, some pretty far reaching conclusions, rather agreeable as slash dislikers come. Though there's something annoyingly nagging when they can't be content to start up a strictly het site for themselves to play in, but feel like they have to point out it's strictly non-slash site where you people can't play.

I was thinking the same thing, because there are plenty of people who have het and gen sites and don't even mention the word slash... which is a probably a good idea, because if a site gets indexed on, say, google, mentioning slash is probably going to bring slash readers to the site.

I have a site that's non-slash, and I just don't mention it.

We do have a link to the VSDs, which pretty much everyone seems to like even if they don't care for slash.

Oh, that's weird. Not much on the site except for the disclaimer and some icons and wallpapers.

Author's Are Rolling in Their Graves

I think most author's, if they read the piles and piles of slash out their, would be weeping with what was being done with their characters in slash fics.

But they're, like, totally okay with you calling them Author's. Because literacy among archivists is optional, yo.

>D Personally, I was more struck by the rolling in the graves bit. I'm fairly sure that the authors would be rolling in their graves just for the general idea of fanfiction alone. Her reasoning for why authors would be rolling in graves over slash could be typecasted for anything non-canon, which includes anything from your het-based stuff to gen. Cause having Boy A love Girl B instead of Girl A--as in canon--totally changes the Character and Author's Vision! OMGLOLZ!!11 And what about extending the story even after it's been 'finished' by the Author?!?!?! OMGWTF!!11 And how about them AUs? OMGBBQ!111

We won't even get started on Mary/Marty Sues or badfic.

... by the way, I never knew that sexual orientation defined me as a human being. Whoa. Deep.

(I don't find the article super-duper wanky, but I do find her reasoning a little short-minded and fallacious... but eh, whatever. It's really her archive, so, she can play as she wants.)

A few good points undermined by her Holier-than-thou attitude.

I'll add that when people write F&F slash they aren't sayin the ACTORS are they're saying the CHARACTERS are gay. There's a difference, learn it.

Appalling how many people fail to realize that. Every actor out ther can tell you horrror stories about it.

I writre SW trilogy slash. A male friend of mine read me the riot act about "Making Harrison Ford Gay." He espoused the idea that Hamill is probably gay (when in fact he's been happily married since 1978). He stated that John Wayne, Clint Eastwood, Charleton heston and Harrison Ford should never ever be slashed. Because they are MEN.

I gently corrected him, saying I knew both of the actors were straight (filled him in on the whole married w/3 kids thing too). But that there is no evidence for either character being exclusively het.

And promptly wondered aloud if he's seen Paint Your Wagon where Eastwood is Lee Marvin's "comfort and solace in my hour of darkness" or Ben-Hur which has Messalina played as a spurned lover. Or The Conversation where even Ford calls his character "vaguely homosexual."

He hung up.

I hope she doesn't archive:

1)stories from fandoms where there's too much het

2)het stories that don't stick to canon and \ or that have any sort of character assasination

(dude, she doesn't even want people to write a gay AUs but it's okay to futz with everything else...)

3)het stories wherein the pairing has a "weakly-based attraction"

You know, maybe I'm odd, as a bisexual person. I think Vin Diesel is hot, very hot. He is muscley and growly and attitudey and good. But I don't want to picture him having sex with another man. In fact, I don't really get much from picturing him having sex with a woman.
I'm like that with the majority of "real people" actors... I find them attractive, but very few actually make me "hot", so I'm not really much for reading fic about 'em. (There are any number of exceptions, but why should I make sense? I'm exhausted right now...)

Well, far be it from me to tell the girl how to run her site...BUT!

And this is a big

(_____|_____)

But.

Just because a character is attracted to/sleeps with the opposite sex doesn't make them EXCLUSIVELY straight, and therefore their sexual orientation is -not- set in stone, unless the character actually comes out and says it.

And also, ya know. Slash is fantasy. Deal with it.

{And also, ya know. Slash is fantasy. Deal with it.}

Very true. I prefer my slash to at least have SOME basis in canon, but even I occasionally go for couples based simply on hottness.

Also why is being gay, or being reguarded as gay such a terrible, awful thing? So Vin Disel might get off on different porn than a straight guy, big deal.

See... if the actor who is your TWU LUV is gay, you (as a straight woman) can no longer have tender fantasies of having proper missionary sex with him!

See the undeniable logic of this situation?!

I got as far as the second time she pluralised with an apostrophe. At that point I realised it hadn't been a typo the first time, and I broke down and wept like a baby.

Wow, that's sad. I'm so jaded about the homophobia that I have to be horrified by bad grammar instead.

I was sitting their there saying "It's authors and out there!" before I gave up and shut the window.

It's the attitude that gets me (like when people harp on spelling and "grammer". That has what to do with Kelsey?). When someone's up there on there their podium preaching that this is "Bad! Bad! Bad!", it kill's kills whatever point they we're were trying to make in the first place.
