*sigh* Will it never end?
I've got a wank for ya'll. [info]vaginalbeatdown The name is offensive enough, but lets add on cuss filled posts, slams on innocent people, rudeness, and not unfriending people who asked to be unfriended(myself included) It seems this person is targeting anime and HP fans, but for once not the BNF's. About 25+ people from the HP fandom have been friended, and I'm not sure how many from Anime.         OH Look, its bad spelling, rudeness and general wankery.
Hope this is wanky enough. I know its pissing off a lot of people.

Not making a judgement call on the wank, but FYI: if you're not sure it's wank but you want to rant about it, there's another comm called [info]fandom_rant... no wank necessary to complain.

There's also [info]fandom_lounge for general pan-fandom news and gossip, and [info]otf_wank for non-fandom wankery.

I think the wank, if anywhere, is in the people screaming to be unFriended. Uhhhh...who cares if this creep Friends you? It doesn't reflect on you as a human being. Just don't Friend him back. e.e

If someone friends you that you don't want, do a pre-emptive ban.

^ what she said.

Also, I don't think it's wanky to ask to be unfriended, but at least use some courtesy. And then they can either unfriend you or not, but at least you didn't act like an asshat.

If you're just talking about keeping nasty comments at bay, yes. But banning someone from commenting doesn't keep them from friending you. Anyone can friend you, as long as their journal hasn't been deleted or suspended.

Who really cares, anyway?

There's a little blurb in the LJ admin console reference that suggests that one of these days LJ might make it so that when you ban someone, they can't friend you either. That doesn't mean that it will definitely be something they'll implement, but it might be nice.

Why do people get so annoyed when assholes add them to their Friends lists? It's not like it gives tham access to any protected posts, and you can hide your "Friends of" list if you don't want their username on your info.

Right. The Friends list is just a shortcut bookmarks list. Some journals I bookmark, some I friend. If you don't want anyone who wanders by reading it, you shouldn't be posting it publicly.

I presume that people are bookmarking or dropping in from the wild green yonder and act accordingly.

A lot of people have suggested this, but it probably won't be done due to the massive user confusion it would cause. Although, from the comments on these suggestions, a lot of people like the idea. (I do too, but I think that if anyone is getting their knickers in a twist over it, they're taking it too seriously.)

Well I think it could be lots of things.

I mean if the person really is an asshat I can understand someone not wanting to be associated with them.

And to many folks it's annoying. It's like having someone trying to peak through your blinds or eavesdropping on your conversation.

Sure they really can't DO anything but you just don't want them there.

Dude-- shut up. I've known Sparky for a long time and she's a lot cooler than you seem to be.

O_o

How can she know someone isn't as cool as her friend by an one-liner comment in livejournal?

Egoistic much?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but we aren't in Britain.

Huzzah, it's the whole Brit/American spelling idiocy all over again! Whoop-a-day!

Wow, emricaneagle is a moron, and it's really funny. XD So help me, but I wanked all over myself and replied to s/he/it. It was so easy to think up one line replies that I just had to. It was like having the red button RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU and lord knows no f_w member can resist a BIG HEAVING RED BUTTON.

I was also amused by elbereth94 (down near the bottom), not because of anything she said, but because of her icon. Now, don't get me wrong, I love Johnny Depp. Amazing actor, beautiful man, and come on, his kids are named Lily-Rose and Jack, and his wife is Paradis. Wonderful. :P But... the little blinking blue heart... did that HAVE to be there? It totally distracts from that wonderful picture, which was, incidentally, on the cover of GQ, which I, incidentally, went to the bookstore today and read because it also had an article on Rick Santorum's 'gay adventure' which was pretty funny. But, whatever. The point is: little blinking blue heart? BWAHAHAHAHA!

I have to say, I loved that bit.

"We're not in Britain, we're on the internet!" Right, so if you're on the internet you have to use American spellings. Okay, fine.

I dunno why people get so wanky about being friended.

If it's public they can bookmark your page and you wouldn't even know they read it.

This way, you might have a little forewarning about whether you REALLY want to make that post about the great sex you had last night public or not. ^^

Heh. I think one of the things that amused/frightened me most were some of the userpics. Most of the *ahem* supporters all seemed to be wanna-be scene kiddies with "OhMyGoth!" faux-artsy userpics. And you know, I don't think a single one of them could spell.

...stupid scene kiddies.
