hide would be rolling in his... uh... grave
My first wank ever. *sniff* I'm so proud. Hope this passes muster...

So, on a J-rock board, the original poster is all excited about wanting to see hide live... (for the uninitiated, hide died 5 or 6 years ago.)

There are some polite corrections made, until missy decides to exercise the mighty power of sarcasm. Die is offended, despite the fact that he thinks this would be really funny.

Then missy starts replying, and it just gets ridiculous. :P

This is why most good boards require registrations. When Suomi Finland Perkele's Messulauta [forum for Finnish metal people] didn't reguire registration we got all sorts of idiotic trolls there, pretending to be others. After they moved it to ezboard things got better, until people started whining about the popups. *shrug*

[SFP magazine went bankrupt, so the board doesn't exist anymore. The webmaster started a webzine at http://www.imperiumi.net with a great board.]

Maybe it's because I just got up, but this post reads like Greek to me. o.O; What is she trying to say, besides the general boo-hoo-ness of it all?

Otherwise, I found both the troll and missy's initial sarcastic response as pretty funny. But I'm an insensitive clout. Reminds me of a short story by Stephen King called 'They've Got One Hell of a Band'--of a town populated by all the dead singers of the world.

Inertia's been checking IP numbers, and apparently the original poster's a troll that she's been trying to ban for a while.

I thought the whole thing was hilarious, especially when missy started on the "How dare you use Die's name, he's my cuddlemuffin!" rant. Because, y'know, anyone who does that is clearly just out to spite her. >:p

If the original poster is a troll, then this is all hysterical. If the original poster is really just an innocent ... yeeeouch. Jrock fandom, in general, is cruel cruel cruel and pretentious beyond belief. Always prime wank material.

However, I don't see how anyone could "discover" hide and not simultaneously discover he is also deceased, since many people seem to like him *because* he's deceased (it's soo trajik!!1!) and thusly spray R.I.P. messages everywhere. I vaguely remember when he died (it was in the mainstream U.S. media), but even when I got into jrock, I definitely knew he was dead before I managed to even hear a song by him.

But really, what's up with the mess about using Die's name and wah wah wah?

You'd be REALLY surprised.

I got into a conversation with someone the other day who literally didn't know that Kurt Cobain was dead. He'd heard of Nirvana, he wasn't an idiot he'd just...somehow...missed the whole part of their history where Kurt killed himself. For 10 years.

So nothing surprises me anymore.

(The first sentance I'd put up originally looked funky to me after I posted it. *shrug*)

It's really easy to like hide's music and not know he's dead. After all, CD's don't come with biographies in English.

It's just hard to get into the fandom without knowing he's dead (well, it should be, but some people are just so unobservant it's painful).

Oh definitely. I have CDs by people who I wouldn't recognize if they knocked on my front door, including some Japanese artists. Liking an artist certainaly doesnt equal being fangirly over them and knowing "stuff" about them, lol.

But as an outsider to Japanese music (which I would imagine anyone who speaks English natively is), the main way most of us learn about new-to-us artists from Japan is via the internet. We don't hear the songs on the radio or anything. So just in order to hear of hide, one has to (probaly) see him mentioned on the net somewhere, and inevitably, the fact that he has passed away is posted there right along with basic info about his music. We have to go out of our way to find Japanese music. I would never just randomly go to an online store and buy a Japanese CD, never having heard it or heard of it. And in hide's case, I think it would be hard to hear of him or his music, without also being informed he is dead.

I guess if someone sent them a CD with a mix of random songs or something ... I could get it. Or if they browsed a user's files on WinMX and just downloaded anything that looked like it might be Japanese. *shrug*

But I think we're on the same wavelength anyway, lol.

That board is a breeding ground for j-rock wank. It's almost as bad as cosplay.com! Oi.
