Hmmm. Thought so.
This should serve to distract from the SF spewage below. Once again, we've got P@L Sign...and this time, she's gloating like she won something. Hands up everyone who saw this coming? *G* Sad, really, when people think "picking a fight" = "victory" -- especially when it wasn't a fight, but rather a mere amusing spectacle/debate.

Oh, and... *waves to P@L* I have a friend who's a regular visitor to your site who tells me these things when they're posted. So don't get all excited thinking I actually pay attention to you on a regular basis. I don't. Sorry.

PS: Snacky's Law gets invoked TWO PARAGRAPHS IN. Beautiful.

I think I'm in the dark on this one. Who the hell is this fapper?

Interesting method of criticism, though. I like my vocabulary, but I don't spend hours upon hours perfecting my posts so they're chocked full of as many superfluous words as possible.

Oh man, it's like they're wearing big, neon signs saying "WANK HERE".

Rarely do we have someone who manages to make Allegro look like Piccalo wank for our pleasure.

Still pointing and laughing here.

They asserted that I was "pretentious," using long words and references solely to impress some fictive audience, when I was merely writing as I naturally do, in accord with the conventions the sf and liberal arts communities I hail from, where obscure references are as mandatory as bad puns.

The majority of my friends are in "liberal arts" communities. They don't like like a pompous college professor.

I also survived primary school as a glasses-wearing, already-literate nerd, so the reactions of the willfully-ignorant and resentful of learning aren't anything new, either.

I can't stand to read much of this person's shit, so I'll just say OMG YOU WERE PICKED ON BECAUSE OF YOUR NERDINESS, TOO, P@L??? IT'S LIKE WE'RE SOULMATES OR SOMETHING AND NOW I SHALL RENOUNCE MY FANDOM_WANKER BADGE AND COME INTO THE LIGHT THAT I FORSOOK LONG AGO WHEN I WAS IN SEVENTH GRADE AND I MADE FUN OF DANA WHELPINGTON BECAUSE SHE WORE STRETCH PANTS!! I usually check for updates to P@L's page, and did so long before she was wanked. She's written some Silmarillion fanfiction that I keep trying to read because I hear it's good, but unfortunately the sentences are too long for me to really keep track of what's going on (English graduate student here).

I stopped checking for updates the first time she was wanked. I couldn't take any more of her for a while.

And now...

My opinion of her has plummetted out of sight. There are so many logical fallacies in there, not even including Snacky's Law, that I can't count them. Why does she do things like despise name-calling and then name-call?

I can't take the bad logic. Someone, save me from the bad logic! I'll get enough of that reading English 101 papers.

-Limyaael, deeply disturbed, in any and all senses of the word.

Oh, my God. It's *beautiful*. It's like a vast, choking cloud of self-parody spewing forth from a pit of utter obliviousness as to the fact that the rest of the world is laughing their arses off at her. I'm literally crying with laughter here. The way she starts off with a *nine paragraph* recap of The Story So Far *alone* is worth the price of admission.

Come on, people. I want 200 comments on *this* thread too so we can get another installment.

One of the big misconceptions that keeps cropping up in FW-criticism is that we all think we're superior. Well... we don't all think that or much of anything really (too many of us for that). And the assumption that we think ourselves superior is itself a wanky idea, because it presumes that there's anything you can do in FANDOM that makes you superior to others. Uhhhhhh... I'm thinking not. IMO there's nothing you can do in fandom that makes you superior to other fans, and the very idea of 'superiority' within fandom makes for some truly enduring and piquant wank-- like this one!

FW: because there's only so many times you can see the same personality conflicts, read the same arguments, and watch the same high-flown 'social experiment' wankery before you realize it's all fucking funny... and say so.

I'm kind of new here, so who the hell is this and why is she whining so much? (And does she get paid by the word in RL or something?)

I survived high school; the mindless who stand in the halls or cafeterias and jeer at those whose clothes or bearing they disapprove of are nothing new, and that that cackling crowd hasn't "grown up" in the handful of years following graduation but has only transferred their hyaena-pack behaviour to online media isn't a surprise, to me at least. (I also survived primary school as a glasses-wearing, already-literate nerd, so the reactions of the willfully-ignorant and resentful of learning aren't anything new, either.)

[snip]

This meant, for better and worse, making myself a lightning rod; no way around it. On the other hand, it wasn't as though I had initiated hostilities — or had anything to lose by it.

Here you go, honey, I've got a nice cross right here for you. Or is the one you're draping yourself over now enough?

I went through hell in school but so did a lot of people. Get over it, already! Move on with your life like a normal, sane person. Or did I just define the problem?

Maybe we need a third-party opinion.

I've got a MegaHAL (Eliza/Smarterchild-esque program who learns from what you type) who I've only fed on song lyrics, and he's completely neutral in all this. Let's see what he has to say.

User: So, Hal, who's wankier...Philosopher at Large, or Fandom_Wank?
MegaHAL: Leonardo da vinci was an ancient greek philosopher.
User: Really. So, you say it's P@L? I think...
MegaHAL: I think i'm gonna stick around for a walk where it's quiet and
MegaHAL: dry and talk about precious thing, but the rain that flattens
MegaHAL: my hair... These are the most could meet somebody who really
MegaHAL: loves you.
User: I see. So, was I right or was I wrong?
MegaHAL: If you want to give you what you don't have the ability to
MegaHAL: move, and does not have the right.
User: Listen, Hal, we're going to you for an opinion. Which one is
User: worse here, P@L or F_W?
MegaHAL: Listen, hal, we're going to avoid that one!
User: Oh, so you're saying you don't think you can say either way?
MegaHAL: I think you can say either way?
User: Can you just say something for sure?
MegaHAL: Well, any man with a broad blade designed chiefly for cutting.
User: Hal, that doesn't help at all.
MegaHAL: Help me inhale, and mend it with these silly questions?
MegaHAL: Anyway, let's talk about something vaguely interesting.
User: Okay, I see. Just say yes or no.
MegaHAL: No you are the things i don't see you anymore.
User: So, is it Philosopher or the Wankas?
MegaHAL: Bruce lee was a greek philosopher.
User: I see. Any final words Hal?
MegaHAL: So you go home, and you cry with these words.
User: Thank you for your time.
MegaHAL: I try to let the river flow in and out of here, been too long
MegaHAL: this time, jump back, gotta get out of me, and pray i float at
MegaHAL: all.

Hm. Okay, that didn't help at all. Made slightly more sense than P@L at times, but didn't help much.

Anyone else got a question for Hal while I've got him on the line?

Riiiiiiiight.

Having been there, done that, got the bitterness myself, I think I can safely say: GET THE FUCK OVER IT. If you were this much of a pretentious, self-righteous, pseudo-intellectual bitch in school, no wonder people didn't like you. And if you weren't - being one now isn't going to make it all better. Get over it, move on, and stop behaving as if you're the Angel of Smart sent down to edumicate all us drooling, grunting, semi-human pithecanthropoids.

You know, I've found a lot of authors who do this. Another author for people's reading entertainment is a LiveJournal user 'E_sama'. 44-year-old married man who writes bad yaoi porn like an 18-year-old girl. Seems to believe there's an adjective shortage, so is stocking up by throwing them in his stories and LJ posts. I once gave a nice clean critical review to his work and he had a hissy fit, took it down, and had his brother write a revenge fic in which I was a drunken redhead who stole a car and got murdered. Cute. :) Recently turned off posting from outside the friendslist because somebody 'flamed him' in his LJ (I never saw it, it may well be a flame, but whatever).

And I finally finish laughing at/dealing with the psychodrama about this, and come here, and see... P@L. P@L is like a female 'E-sama'.

So I read this thread and I swear to god, all I can think is:

'They deserve to have beautiful babies together, but it can never happen: They wank way too much.'

You know, this latest installment of the P@L drama series reminds me of a few lyrics of a Moxy Fruvous song...
"When every wanker's wound up tight..."
Wait....she layed a trap for us? The hell? I was under the impression that she:
1. Wrote an illegible piece of fanart with enough incomprehensible words to make a FicBitch scream-
2. Got needled about her fics, and then-
3. Got sniffy at the needlers, which prompted us to-
4. Wank her on F_W.

I fail to see the dastardly plot here, unless she wrote the fic badly on purpose in order to lure us to our collective "OMG j00r stoo0pid!!11!" doom. In which case she's a disgrace to the term 'writer'. But I digress.

You remember being a little kid and doing something really embarassing in front of your friends, and then trying to act cool while saying, "I meant to do that. Really." Seems somebody doesn't want to admit that they were a dumbass.

And really. The woman footnoted her own footnotes. Then she brought Jesus and Isis into the wank. Then, just to give one final crank to the winch hoisting her on her own petard, she says: "All in all, a good few hours work — and now I must resist temptation in the future, to fill up the kerosene tanks and fire off more taunts in their direction. (Dang, it's hard to stop!)"

Expressing her disappointment at not being able to wank at us more- which was her problem with US in the first place. (i.e: 'You guys wank just for malicious fun!')

And when are we gonna get some icons out of this? We need to memorialize this stupidity, lest History repeat itself.

P@L- SHUT UP! You're making those of us with actual dignity blush for you.

One is reminded very strongly of the fate of swaggering bully Br'er Fox in the American folktale, who could not pass by offered insolence, and with every blow and kick only found himself more stuck.

*imagines P@L as Elmer Fudd setting a trap for Bugs Bunny*

Having gone back into the archives and found other posts regarding this P@L person... I'm just amazed she's got the energy to write these lovely psychoanalytic essays on F_W and various individuals within F_W.

P@L, honey, sweetheart, darling... I mean this in the nicest way possible. Really, I do...

STOP MAKING YOURSELF A TARGET AND WE'LL LEAVE YOU ALONE.

Thanks, drive on through.

And we've come full circle from the "OMG F_W-ers are all biiiiiig lesbians" rant.

Does anyone else notice that P@L seems to be awfully.....fixated on Azusa? XD Looks like it's time to find the Hive Mind a restraining order wank.

I never thought P@L could get more Wanktastically Delicious (tm). I was wrong.

Wow. There's nothing I can say about this piece of 'writing' that it doesn't say for itself in more spades than I can count. Instead, I have just this to ask:

What the holy fuck is up with 'The Fandom Wank,' anyway? Is that anything like 'The Batman' or some shit? Eef.

Because this revealed to me that not only was the FW evil, in the petty, stupid, nasty way of schoolchildren, but it was also disproportionately powerful, and its members, like the Borg, utterly without conscience.

This screams for an icon. Fandom Wank: We're like Borg, in a way.

...explode with laughter on reading this part?

Apparently the FW believes themselves in a dystopic world where only they have weapons and armour, like a mecha stomping through a defenseless village, and thus has no fear of retribution — I cannot otherwise account for the shock and outrage that I would dare assault them, in their own style, after having been their target.

1) Where was the shock and outrage? I remember a whole bunch of extremely funny comments. Was the shock and outrage sprinkled with special fairy dust so only P@L could see it?

2) Where are the weapons and armor? You've been hiding them from me, haven't you? *whines*

3) I briefly feel like I'm in a dystopic world when reading P@L, but only because she writes without much of a sense of humor. Or perhaps the humor is going over my head. Anyone else see it?

4) Or maybe I'm just really lost.

5) Have I matched the number of her footnotes yet?

6) Okay, now I think I have.
