Current mood:*sporfle!*

It's the circle of wank, now a hit Broadway musical!
This has been on LJdrama.org but god it's amusing and I can't let the fine folks here not enjoy it.

Meet fallinfromastar, who has the gall to not prostrate himself at the feet of the cult of RENT and sees it for what it is, a fairly decent but totally overhyped rock musical with an unfortunate proportion of psychotic fen.

Meet foreversad, who has the gall to call a cast album a soundtrack (a point of contention for theatre afficionados that is NEVER ENDING, just as a point of reference for the uninitiated), and whose grammar continually slips into oblivion. Our dear wanker foreversad also happens to be older than me, which makes me sob.

Meet gruyere, whose grasp of terminology and not-craptastic theatre is only rivaled by his sarcasm and his his apparent ability to withstand repeated kicks to the scrotal area via internet.

I do love it when my little geeky fandom gets wanky. Brings a tear to mamma's eye.

Edited to add: I almost forgot the final gem of this wankfest. foreversad's drama fit exit post. I love it when people think anyone else cares if they huff off from a community. *titter*

Speaking of unnecesary nitpicking, shouldn't that be 'gall' instead of 'gaul'? As in 'insolence or effrontery' as opposed to 'Asterix and Obelix'?

::laughs:: That it would be. There's a reason I'm not an English major anymore. ;-)

That whole album/soundtrack wankfest!! And hello--when's the last time anyone actually saw a record album? They're an extinct species. (Around here at least.)

And of course gruyere would turn out to be a theatre student-dropout.

I'm still chuckling over this. It's the perfect bit of 'wank sorbet', if you will--something light to enjoy after stuffing on way too much carbohydrate!!

The soundtrack/cast album debate is the wank that never ends in Broadway fandom. There's always a newbie who calls something a soundtrack (and unfortunately usually has a tenuous grasp of grammar and the English language), and there's always a handful of the afficionados who jump down their throats. Oftentimes it doesn't escalate into fullscale wank, but this time, woo. Not surprising that the big wanker involved was a RENThead, there are some scary minions in that fandom. It's too bad, because I know plenty of people who love the show who are great, but as always, it's the insane ones who get the attention.

Hm, well, nothing JUST on records, but I own a good deal of recent vinyl...a lot of the more indie bands I listen to are a little obsessed with keepin' teh spirit ALIVE! Pearl Jam used to put their albums out on vinyl about a week before they were released in any other format, I own a couple White Stripes records, a Flaming Lips single on vinyl...some Sisters of Mercy...

Er...yeah. There's SOME record albums still coming out. But they're mostly only owned by the devotees.

Yeah, we got a taste of that when Joey was in the production.

I was really thinking the world was going to explode from the wank power of RENTheads and N*Syncers being combined. I still think boy band members should be banned from musical theatre with a teeny bopper fanbase, it's just frightening.

I was a little irked by the "theatre is only for gay men and straight women who can't get laid" bit on LJdrama, since we all know actors are complete whores and most theatre fans are actors, but I found it highly entertaining nonetheless. My little fandom's all grown up.

This "soundtrack vs. cast recording" bit is just reminding me of the spectacular wank that will occur if you call anime "cartoons" around a certain brand of extremely pretentious anime fan. They'll go on and on about cultural integrity and quality and etc. etc., completely ignoring the fact that "anime" is just a word derived from the French word for "animation", which, last I checked, included "cartoons".

I love how people get all worked up over semantics.

Gee, well, when you take someone with an angstastic handle like [info]foreversad, it's kind of to be expected. If you don't come to the Pity Party, you're just an asshole like everyone else.

People storming away from communities indignantly is just so embarrassingly amusing, though. Do people fail to see the logic behind what they're doing? "None of you like me! So I'll LEAVE! That oughtta show you!"

To quote the great Vizzini... "Morons!"

well, you guys just seem like a bunch of elitists.

I think this is one of those things that if it's not careful it'll evolve into something much like Snacky's Law - except instead of comparing the opposite side of the argument to high-school bitches, there is an accusation of elitism - which almost always ends up in said accuser stomping off in a huff, (allegedly) never to return, and is almost always because said accuser is wrong and can't accept it/hasn't been accepted into a group of friends...

Take this for example. Riuttafuck ryttu3k accuses a group of board members of being elitist pricks, simply because she's not one of their friends (and it's me she's attacking btw). This elitist wank caused all those she accused of elitism to make mocky elitist avatars (which, unfortunately, are no longer in existence). If anyone's interested, wank starts here...

Hrm. I probably could have made a new post in otf_wank and posted this there, couldn't I? :/ Oh well, it's probably too old...
