Liek thr r 2 many yuugioooh rpaefix at ff.net and that is sooooo not kewlies so I created a group agianst that. Join, k thx bye

Someone in the YGO_Yaoi community decides that there are just too many rape fics in the Yu-Gi-Oh! category and something should be done about that.

http://www.livejournal.com/community/ygo_yaoi/126306.html

People agree, and it's just frightening.

There's fangirl Japanese, bad spelling, netspeak, and the Holocaust is invoked.

"Non-con in general kinda makes me a bit iffy, but if it's an intragil part of the story and delt with properly, it doesn't bother me much."

So, a community is created. "Yuugiou Fans agaist Senseless Character Rape&Abuse"

A plan of action is quickly created, and agreed upon. Then there's "Being it's been comented and kinda proven in a few places that most people are just going to ingore anuthing they don't like, one thing we can try is the revise. When someone finds a fic that deals with things realisticly and isn't tossing about abuse like popcorn, we can post it here and send the author much positive feedback. Encouraging the people who actualy do thigns right as well as trying to discourage the ones that do everything wrong. "

I know I'd want to have my stuff in an archive that has her in charge of "quality controll".

Ah, God, the wank, she make me cry. *wipes away a tear*

Ya know I now feel the sudden urge to track down and read YGO yaoi rape fics. Hell I'm even tempted to write one where Yami Bakura has Non-con sex with the entire male cast.

See this is why I don't particpate much.

I don't participate much either.

I found the wank via link-hopping, and nearly burned my eyes out because of the design of those communities.

But yeah, Yami Bakura having non-con sex with the entire male cast is starting to sound more and more like a good idea. I'd have to run it through the anti-spellcheck, too.

The mind fuck of it all is what I love. "Hmmm all those damn Mary Sue and anti this or that comms haven't worked, so we'll just proverbially kiss the feet and offer lots and lots of oral sex to the people who do it RIGHT!".

I'd sign in to do this, but I don't use Journalfen.

Geez, people, get a life. Do you really have so much time on your hands that you have nothing better to do than mock people who are actually trying to do something in response to what they see as a problem? If you don't like anti-rapefic stuff just go away. Start a pro-rape site if you will. You don't have to insult that group.

Yes, because bad rapefics are such a huge problem.

Why don't you try ignoring the bad rapefics? Is that really so hard?

Start a pro-rape site? Don't mind if I do!

Because if I'm against anti-rapefic people, then I'm obviously pro-rape. Such stunningly clear logic cannot be argued with.

It's feedback manipulation--the reason that I've become so embittered about fanfic feedback is that the first question I ask when I receive feedback is "what's this reader's agenda?"

In a way, it is more positive than those anti-slash groups within various fandoms who provide "suggestions" on the type of feedback to provide for any slash posting (religious ranting, in many cases) . . . reading the piece not required.

But "positive" groups like this tend to "expand" beyond their original goals--first, by implicitly promoting the flaming of stories that aren't praise-worthy, and second, by the praising of shite fics that follow the group's "canon." Not all group members will flame the "unworthy" fics or praise the shite fics, but any group within fandom that has an agenda like this will tend to attract a good number of users who will think that those things are totally appropriate.

And it just devalues the idea of feedback. Then you end up with authors like me, who like to write stories that piss people like you off. Authors who fall over in laughter when they receive more flames than praise. In many ways, the devaluation of feedback through feedback manipulation creates exactly the opposite situation of the one you're trying to create.

Ehh... I'm not seeing the wank here. I admit it could be because I'm a little too close (I'm acquainted with several people on ygo_yaoi, the OP Fran and I are great friends and talk daily, and I'm a member of the ygo_fascra comm), but although some of the replies are...ehh... Fran's original intentions were sincere. This (the rapefic, not the wank, although I don't think she knows she's on here yet) really bothers her...she felt like she had to do something for conscience's ssake, I think. And I resent the jab at her spelling...she typos a lot, but when writing fic she goes over her spelling with a fine-toothed comb.

Anyway, I'm done whining. n.n; Yuugiou's a pretty peaceful little fandom, until somebody brings up rapefic... *facepalms*

Or spelling. Of the show's title or character names.

So... are you mocking my poor spelling or my opinions?

Couldn't find any fan girl Japanese in the thread, nor any real netspeak. Yeah, I typoed up a storm, but hell, it's a journal, not a fic or artical. I don;t tend to spellcheck everything I type. Maybe you should have looked at my fics before making your 'Dear god, THAT'S quality controll?'

Granted, your allowed your opinions, but I would like to know what I'm being ragged on for. [Cause if it is my spelling, I can understand that. I can't spell fer shite. Tis why I spellcheck my fics]

What's so wrong about wanting to do something about the cookie cutter PWoP crap fics?

My mistake. That wasn't netspeak, it was just badly misspelled writing.

You must really put a lot of thought into your posts and comments. They're so grammatical, well-spelled and easy to understand.

Fangirl Japanese? I spotted "Hai!", "Bakura-kun" and "Hikari".

I looked at your fics. And nearly got whiplash from the way you went from fangirl Japanese to English. Look, if you know Japanese that well, just write the entire story that way.

I suppose you deserve to be commended for trying to do something about a type of fic that you don't like. Even though it's been proven that it doesn't work.

Jesus Christ, when will people get the story straight?

Technicalities first. There's no fangirl Japanese, and if any Japanese is used, it's probably because we know how to speak the language. And where's the netspeak? Please, I'd love to see it.

Rape is not the point here. It's rape glorification, written for perverse pleasure and whatever other sadistic reasons the readers might have, and it's also rape taken far too lightly. The story that sparked this community was written terribly, and took into no consideration the consequences of rape. It portrayed it as pretty and a way to get the character into bed with someone else the next day.

Rape fics are not the target. The target is rape fics in which the only reason there is rape is for smut.

Honey, keep on crying. Nobody cares. You're pathetic.

Like I said before, I spotted three uses of fangirl Japanese. "Hai!", "Bakura-kun" and "Hikari". You know how to speak the language. Good for you. I'm learning Japanese myself and it's a hard fucking language to learn. But you know what? I don't go around throwing it into my stories and comments and posts. You know why? Because it's not appropriate to do so.

And where's the netspeak? Please, I'd love to see it.

What I mistook for netspeak was merely a lot of misspelling and grammatical errors. Easy mistake.

Yes, because this has never happened in another fandom before. Rape is written as a plot device in many fandoms.
Homoeroticism is a fucking plot device. There are fics written for no other reason than to write male/male for smut. And sometimes, it is written very badly.

Badfic happens. Welcome to Fandom.

Rape fics are not the target. The target is rape fics in which the only reason there is rape is for smut.

That's nice. You go right ahead and stop those nasty rape fics!

Honey, keep on crying. Nobody cares. You're pathetic.

Paraphrasing somebody else, bad rapefics are, well, bad. But so is any other badly written fic. (see, point here is that if you were just angry with the technical writing problems I'm sure everybody would agree, though starting a group against that is a bit, well, jeez. People are lazy and unskilled; ff.net is an open archive; what do you expect, a silver platter?)

However, some people like it [rape as smut]. And, honestly, I can see/understand enjoying a rapefic as smutfic. ::insert appropriate blush:: If it's just a one-shot for rape as smut, and ends before any recovery or aftereffects even become an issue, the recovery and aftershocks have no chance to even be insensitively treated. (and though the insensitive treatment of [or complete lack of] recovery will piss me off as well, again, starting a group against it? Golly-gee. Freedom of speech and freedom to be a bloody idiot, here, jeez. Ff.net is an open archive, even for those poor unskilled children who want their bad smut. I know that I used to think i could write, when, well, I was pretty damn pathetic. [I did a mary-sue once!])

... Basically, it's like modern art!
[What the Hell?]
See, most abstract modern artists can paint realistically. They just don't want to -- they'd rather focus on the texture of the paint, the process, and/or an emotion. Likewise, probably most fic authors could do something fairly realistic in rape-recovery -- but they don't feel like it. They want quick smut. (that only refers to the ones who can write a gramatically correct sentence, though -- badly written fics are, as previously stated, bad.)

So.

Three points to make and hopefully I won't be too longwinded in making them.

1. I think everyone here can "see/understand enjoying" a homosexual relationship. There are, however, a large number of well organized people out there who say that homosexuality is wrong and that homosexuals shouldn't be allowed to marry, adopt children, or hold certain jobs [like teaching or soldiering]. These people are allowed to their opinion, wrongminded and ignorant though I think it is. [When they actually start running legislation is where I start getting overly ticked and think they should mind their own damned business.] The protester is just as covered in the Bill of Rights as the protested.

2. Hypothetical situation: A man gets arrested because a whole big stash of naked kiddie pictures are found on his hard drive. Now, he doesn't know any of the kids involved, he's never touched any kid in an inappropriate way. The pictures are found to be out of... let's say a Sears ad that some bored schmuck played with one day out of perverse pleasure in the fact that he could. No children were actually hurt in the case.

That doesn't make it any less child pornography. It doesn't make it any less wrong for the subject to not be real, or not be involved immediately in what's going on.

3. Slavery is wrong. It is just wrong for someone to take away the rights and freedom of someone else. Are we all agreed?

But there are these people, and they don't worship our god and are savages without civilization. It's our duty to take them to our homes and make them civilized and productive so they can get to heaven.

How long is it before you start believing your rationalizations? Until it starts to make sense that while All Men Are Created Equal, some can be enslaved because of the colour of their skin? How long is it before people who don't know anything about rape other than these fics start believing that it's sexy? How long before you meet someone who was raped a long time ago and is still in therapy without the ability to be in a healthy relationship and wonder what's wrong with them that they can't bounce back like the people in the stories?

Rape isn't something to be taken lightly for the pursuit of hentai pleasure.

Hey I was just dropping by and reading up on this lovely wank. I totally agree with whoever mentioned that fangirl japanese usually does not mean the author can fluently speak the language.

The author, I'm so sorry I can't remember who it was, said that most people who are bilingual or more never mix up languages unless they are searching for a word. This is true also because if you are making the point to learn another language you want to make sure you speak it as much as possible, not go throwing around words in your own language.

Generally people that use another language in a fanfic are just showing off knowledge of a few words- or they want to make an impression and really show off by putting in some complete sentences, but natives wouldn't do that.

A lot of people reading the fanfic don't *know* the language you are posting words or phrases in, and it bothers them to read something that they don't understand in a story supposedly in their own tongue. I am guilty of using a few phrases in stories, but mostly to express ethnicity (i.e. something startles a character and their automatic response is to curse in their native tongue) and I don't believe I've ever used Japanese this way.

Anyway this is a totally long and pointless post (sorry) but I wanted to tell you that I agree on the fangirl Japanese front.
