	Oh I've never really MUSHed before. My experience with Pern fandom has been through email RPGs and of course Anne McCaffrey's official message board. 	Links would be impossible, as it all happened online and my logfiles were long since eaten. But anyone who wants to check out PernMUSH (NC) -- or, really, any online Pern game -- will encounter lots of the same. Crappy roleplaying/overacting abounds. =) (Reply to this)(Parent)

I didn't do zines, either...But I came into the fandom pretty late.

You know, come to think of it, maybe I don't want to think about what the zines had to offer...In the one Pern club I'm in now we have someone who is probably going to be the one to Impress a gold dragon despite the fact that she has an IQ of -20 and is terrified of men. (The frightening thing is that I see the first character I ever played in Pern fandom reflected back in her...)

	I actually like uber fics... When I first came out that's all I could find that was anywhere near original lesbian fiction... However, I've read some truly awful stories...Like the ones where they figure they have to stick in at least one reference to Xena that just pulls me right out of the story. :P (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

Heh heh heh, that's true.

Problem with uber fic these days is that there's so damn much of it, and the majority of that is people who've read other uber fics, decide they can write one too, and proceed to spew something that is basically a watered-down regurgitation of stuff they've already read, which probably wasn't that great to begin with. The stereotypes drive me nuts, and the uber fic genre has collected its very own set of cliches. The one that springs to mind of its own very obnoxious accord is when they play the damn "soulmates" card with everybody. You know, their eyes meet in a strip club when the one woman in the bar, a dark-haired, blue-eyed mysterious stranger, stuffs a couple of singles into the G-string of the blonde, green-eyed stripper with the impossibly defined six-pack abs, and they instantly realize that they've MET SOMEWHERE BEFORE!

*rolling eyes*

I think the term "glutted market" about sums it up.

Actually, the real wankage in Xena fandom is the fact that you still can't discuss the series finale in a bunch of forums without a Kevlar jacket and a bomb shelter. One of my mailing lists still won't allow it because it gets so damn hostile. Blah blah they betrayed us blah blah how could they do that blah blah BLAH . . .

Yes, the soulmate thing has been done to death. And I would really like to know how mahny of the women actually writing those fics are, in fact, lesbians, because I've seen way too many uber-Xenas who are basically just men with tits, and that drove me up a frickin' wall. :P

One that has absolutely nothing to do with the fandom excpet that the characters look sort of similar and the pairing, if applicable, is intact.

It actually makes sense in Xena, which had its own episodes along that theme... But ~~Gabby~~ Mary the beautiful peach-skinned English slave in Sultana ~~Xena's~~ Sheherazade's lesbian harem gets old faster than you would think.
