Rich, skimmable wank.
Rolling Stone puts out a list of the 100 greatest guitarists ever. Said list is quite awe-inspiringly weird. Wank ensues.

And ensues.

And ensues.

About the only thing that they can all agree on is that the list is off-base, and that the author of the article should be shot and skullfucked. The rest is a steaming pile of generational wank.

My favorite:

You may have gotten the old sacks, but where the new guys? I mean like the Used's Quinn Allman, Rancid's Tim Armstrong or Lars Frederickson, Queens of the Stone Age's Josh Homme, Smashing Pumpkins/Zwan's Billy Corgan, Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong, AFI's Jade Pudget or even Blink- 182/Box Car Racer's Tom Delounge? They all have invented music and changed it. Your list wouldn't even have them if it was 200.
WANKSTATOM...None of those people deserve to even be considered for this list! What were you thinking!?!

Me, I'm just miffed they didn't put Frank Black on there. >:D

And I'm guessing the cover of this issue is Hilary Duff wearing low-rise pants and a bra top with her legs spread? What better way to follow "America's Favorite Fantasy!"

And agreed on Frank Black's deserving to be on the list.

Umm...actually, this week's cover is Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. For real.

Okay, so next week is the cover with the Hilary Duff/Amanda Bynes/Lindsay Lohan three-way simulation!

Townsend at #50. TOWNSEND AT #50. I've already wanked ALL THE HELL OVER this one, myself.

I know, I stoled it. ._. But the 7000 comments on it are what pushed it over the line and made it officially wankable. ^^

Man, every time some magazine rolls out an article about 'best of' or 'worst of' or 'who's who' or something, there's always wank. PoE-news exploded into wank when Blender magazine named the Insane Clown Posse the worst band ever... and then someone posted the complete list of 'worst of' and wank exploded about the Doors being on the list. I had to leave at that point, I'm not too much a fan of bukkake. ::snrk::

In the end, everyone agrees that the list sucks and that the author(s) should be shot.

The circle of wank is complete. I feel at peace.

Funny enough, said article pretty much names almost all my favorite guitarists, even if I disagree with where they are. OMG! IM TEH CHILDE OF TEH CULT-CHURE!11

Er, 'said article' being the wank posted here by Banal. Yeah. Clarification is hard.

Would it qualify as wank if I finally admit that I loathe the fucking Doors?

I don't think so. I mean, it shouldn't be wanky to hate/despise/loathe/MURDERDETHKILL something. I despise broccoli, and if that makes me wanky... well, I masturbate more than anyone else on the planet! Now, if you start running to Doors BBSes and start waving your cock around, then we might have a problem. ^_~

I myself think Morrison's kind of cute, in that waif-need-to-get-something-to-eat way, and the music is okay, if overly repetitive, but I don't see the need to a blow up a country over it. ::snrk::

Eh, I don't think so.

How's this for admittance...I adore Nirvana, but really fucking wish they'd never end up on one of these lists EVER again. Just retire the bastards, we all KNOW they were cool.

Oh, total word. The way I see it is: Okay, Morrison, you've got high cheekbones and nice hair and your voice might be okay if you quit guzzling booze, but do you have to say you're a poet? I mean, really?

It's not that it's poetry. It's that he took lots of drugs and sang about it. Now if you listen to the music, you get an idea of what it's like to be fucked out of your head without having to take any dangerous drugs yourself. IMO it's very convenient.

The Oingo Boingo lists I was on wasn't nearly as wanky about the band being #16 on the Blender list. Some 'OMGWTF' though.

16?

Dude, there's more than Dead Man's Party, you ungrateful bastards! Didn't see you complaining at the Halloween shows, did I? No....but they break up and you actually have to find something to do on Halloween -- oooh ooh, they suddenly suck!

oops, sorry. Got a bit wanky there.

That's it.

After I pass my constitutional amendment to completely ban the music of Sumblime from the radio FOREVER, I'm gonna pass one that says that no one can nominate ANYONE or ANYTHING for a "Best Of..." list that came out in the past...oh, 5 years. Gives some perspective.

Whoa, that melted my brain quickly. No one wanks like wannabe guitar snobs, blech. I don't read that tripe magazine, but I'd bet none of my favorite guitarists are on it, because I don't choose favorites on the basis of technical proficiency or virtuosity. Because I'm not kewl enough, and I'm just a dumb girl. (insert fehmuhnist male-domination rant here.) In any case, Top (Number) ranking lists are inherently asking for trouble.

Lurky McLurker here, fandom spectator without a hardcore fandom in which to hang my hat. I'm just endlessly curious and amused. ('unbridled' on LJ)

Personally, I thought Lou Reed should have rated higher, but I'm biased *g*

And I'm shocked that they put Mick Ronson on at all - not because I don't think he's mega-talented, but because well, if people're gonna wank about Cobain...

I have to say I pretty much agree with the top ten except that I've never heard of Robert Johnson - and I would really put Keith Richards higher (but again, I'm biased ;))

However, to wank about it? Very wanky!

Highly influential blues guitarist, in the 1930s. Did a particularly famous song, "Hellhound on My Trail". Here's (http://www.deltahaze.com/johnson/) some more information about him.
