Timeless wank: Mac vs PC
Is there anything as wanky as a Mac fan with ruffled feathers? Everyone is allowed to laugh at PCs, but God help you if you mock the Mighty Blue Apple. And yes, I consider people who go on and on about how great Macs are to be fanboy/girls.

On the Ex Isle board, maryavatar (that would be me) linked to this amusing little sketch: Mac Editor.

And there was much hilarity.

Until, that is, the Mac users arrive and find it offensive.

My favourite bits:

What stupidity.... I couldn't even watch the whole thing....

and

Much of the stuff in there is just plain made up, and a few of the parts in it (like the atuoplaying CDs and the trouble trying to copy/move a file from a CD) are even distinctly characteristic of certain incarnations of Windows.

Ah, a wank of my very own, I feel so proud. And slightly guilty, since I'm wanking my friends *blush* It's still quite a small wank, but I can see it growing. I'm hoping for someone to turn up and be offended about the Windows RG.

That's a pretty fucking funny link. In the school library, our catalog/circulation program is on a Mac. I fucking hate it.

I've never experienced the problems that guy had, but I still thought the video was hilarious. And being multi-platform, I could appreciate the RG one as well.

but after awhile it got so abusive I had to close the window.

This is almost on par with the scary ROM fan.

What the hell is wrong with people? Those two were both great! And I really related to the Mac guy. I remember trying to reboot a Mac once and it didn't do anything. But Windows RG was funny, too. ME is a real bitch

I skipped ME and went straight from 98 to 2000. I must admit to lucking out on my computers. Being married to a systems analyst helps. Much as I love my 'puter, I wouldn't get offended if anyone mocked it. Who on earth gets offended on behalf of a machine?

Heh. I went to college with the guy who made this (back when he had an Apple IIe). The interesting thing is that he loves Macs, and has worked with them since, well, the Apple IIe. :) He made the video after experiencing some, shall we say, frustrations with editing a movie on a Mac.

He's used Macs for years, and spent a *huge* amount of time actually using a Mac to edit his own movies, which is why I find this bit so amusing:

What it really looks like is a Windows fan who wanted to make a response to the Mac praisers and Windows detractors, but, knowing nothing at all about Apple computers or software, couldn't do what you describe and make jokes about the real issues, which are different from those that apply to Windows.

And he says he still loves Macs, BTW. :) He just, as one poster accurately surmised, knows them well enough to appreciate their flaws, too.

(For the record, I've used nothing but Macs since 1989 and am very fond of them, but when I first saw this last year at Chattacon I thought I would wet my pants laughing. :))

I dragged my mac-user housemate out to watch it on my naughty little PC. She laughed until she nearly cried.

I think it's the way that it's so beautifully edited - on the mac that killed his inner child - that really makes it the funniest thing I've seen in a while...

(So, yeah. Thank him for us too. And is F_W like the non-celebrity Kevin Bacon or something? You can damn near anyone in two steps from here!)

I work at my college's computer help desk and fix Macs and PCs. That said, I laughed my ass off at both of those. Some people have obviously had their sense of humor removed with an ice cream scoop.

Oddly enough, I'm in the same line of work at present (or, shall we say, slave labor, as it's "workstudy")... and I used to work at an ice cream shop, so I could even show you the proper technique of having one's sense of humor removed with an ice cream scoop.

That being said, that video was fucking great.

Macs definately have their issues, but I have to say that it is soooo much easier to make fun of Windows. Love that Windows RG, lol.

oh, and totally consider Mac a fandom. They have cons and BNF's and self rightous behavior and everything. All they need is fanfic.

There needs to be some sort of Godwin's Law thing that applies to someone trying to use the fact that they're so mentally unbalanced that they can't tolerate humor of any kind as proof that something isn't funny.

A: I don't find that funny at ALL.

B: Really? I thought it was hilarious.

Ugh... why the constant petty fighting between Mac and Windows users? This has been said before, but they both have gobs of problems - I've been using Macs since I was three, and every version of the OS I've used has done its share to piss me off. I haven't encountered many problems with Windows ME, but that could be due to the fact that I rarely use PCs. :P

(Besides, computer abuse is fun. If my craptacular G3 had feelings, I'd hurt them. Repeatedly.)
