Autowankic for the people
Autograph Collector magazine names its ten best and worse celebrities:

Unwilling to be harassed by souvenir-demanding strangers = Evil.

I dunno, considering the "OMG Leggy iz soooo HAWT" contigent (present company exempted, of course), I don't necessarily blame Orlando Bloom for being cold to autograph hounds.

I'm surprised more celebrities don't carry pepper spray. Or tasers.

Well, except for the fact that were it not for those fangirls, however annoying, Mr. Bloom would still be, "Who?" I don't blame anyone for not wanting to sign, especially when fans are being pushy and obnoxious, but by the same token, I very much appreciate those who do take the time to acknowledge the people who helped them attain celebrity status. I will always adore Alan Rickman, not just because his voice makes my toes curl, but because after being onstage for two and a half hours he still stopped to sign autographs and take pictures with everyone who was waiting at the stage door, and because he was incredibly gracious about it even though he was clearly very tired after the show.

I have to wonder where they even got this info. Must be either from the pros, or idiots who approach people at inappropriate moments and/or are rude about it. I don't know much of the list, but Orlando is known for signing and signing and SIGNING. Heck, he got in trouble in Anaheim at the POTC premiere for breaking away from his handlers to go back out and sign more autographs!

I wonder what the criteria for being an autograph snob was.
Do they only give them at things like premires or events and not if you
happen to see them on the street? Because that seems reasonable to me. But if
they won't give them at all to anyone then I raise my eyebrows and think "Ok, the fans are
who got you on that red carpet pal."

I can see both sides here. It's good to be gracious and appreciative of fans, so long as the fans don't act like raving idiots. But, of course, being hounded by fans left, right and center all the time has GOT to get annoying after a while. Sort of like, oh, me at AX this year, cosplaying. (Not that cosplaying is anything like being Orlando Bloom.)

(beginning of day)
Me: *cosplay!*
Normal People: OMGWTFBBQ.
Lady From Fundie Conference: You = going to hell.
Me: No. *cosplay*
People Who Recognize My Costume: SQUEE! *picture*
Me: XD XD XD

(end of day)
Me: Must go to masquerade so I can be in it. Must not be late.
People Who Recognize My Costume: SQUEE! *picture*
Me: I have to go up three floors to the masquerade NOW, plzkthx.
Ten Million People Who Recognize My Costume: SQUEE! *picture*
Me: *takes half an hour to go up three floors* O_o;;

I can't imagine what it'd be like to have a billion times that level of attention ALL THE TIME, wherever you go. Scary.

And yes, someone did actually ask me for my autograph. O_o; Buh?

Yeah, that's sorta what I was trying to say too. Only not so well.
I work at an airport bookstore in a major city and celebrities come in occasionally
and one of the ladies I work with told me that Stephen King was "a total ass" because
"he would only sign two books per person." Yes, what a cock he is. How dare he be at an
airport and possibly have a plane to catch and not have the time to sign every book in the store, the bastard.

My boss tells me that the late, great, Douglas Adams was one of those non-book-signing-in-airports 'assholes.'

Of course, my boss is one of those dealer types who managed to make even the sainted Arlo Gutherie cranky by coming up after the show with a shopping bag full of albums, books, and singles for the poor guy to sign.

Dealers can be remarkably single-minded and persistent at times. Given that I already know I'm an asshole, I expect I'll be giving out a fairly limited number of autographs if and when I ever get famous.

Well, obviously! Never mind the fact that, with his level of both fame and prolific-ness, signing every book for every person who ever asked would mean not having time to do silly little things like, oh, sleep, or eat, or use the bathroom. Who cares about that stuff anyway? He owes us!

Given some of the Legolas fanfic that's out there, I wouldn't blame Mr. Bloom for avoiding his fans, either.

I stumbled across a Legolas fanfiction called Scarves, Ropes, And Some Fun. Quite by accident, but I spent about three days carefully picking my retinas apart.

I'm with the celebs. I remember Ben Affleck saying in an interview that some people would bring about 500 things to sign. I mean, some autographers are just outrageous. I was excited about meeting Peter David at the convention, but that didn't mean I bought all of my Captain Marvel comics for him to sign (I only bought one). Sheesh.

And don't forget, this is an article from "Autograph Hunter Magazine" which probably caters to the fantics and the dealers, and those seem to be the types that most celebs don't want to have to deal with, so they're probably seeing the worst of them.

Why do I have the feeling that with Colin Farrell, "autograph" has a much broader definition?

Aaaw, Lance didn't make the worst ten this year. Must not have verbally abused any collectors recently. Maybe the Russians were nicer. They certainly asked better interview questions... (One of the reasons I love him, the snarky bitch. He'll always stop and sign things for young girls and kiddies, but went off at one adult hunter. "No. You're just going to sell it." "It's for my little sister!" "Funny, I've signed things for that same sister five times now. Go away before I set security on you.")

I notice Jessica Simpson is on the "best" list.

So... that means that someone actually wanted her autograph?
