Logic, please!
Semi-self-wank, of course. In fact, I come close to invoking some mutation of Snacky's Law at some point (oops).

Background: Key player here is the original poster, Nemoxs, who has a history of being obsessed with popularity. Euphoria is the 800-pound gorilla of anime vidding; it generally made people wet themselves in rapture. Vids on this site are rated by viewers, and rankings are posted daily. This, of course, gives people something else to obsess over.

OP: A video that has nothing to do with me had a ratings change OMG.
Me: And this involves us, or you, how exactly?
OP: You suck LOL.
Me: Okay, but that doesn't answer my question.
Somebody else: Everybody in this thread needs to get a life.
Various other people: [fill in reasonable musings on opinions and ratings here]
Me: This is not a popularity contest, you know. What the hell is wrong with you?
OP: I'm obsessed with people liking me, that's not a bad thing, if you're not you shouldn't be here.
Me: WTF?

Most of the bitchery is on page 4 so far. It's all strangely cheerful. And yes, the wank is quite possibly coming from my direction, as my comments were pointed and I had to be a big dork about it. Oh well.

is it sad that my first reaction to this was "aha! I know you!"?

anyway.

I love it when people invoke logic against idiots who have none. it's great. their "omgwtflolbbq" reaction is priceless every time.

...wait, me? If so, my condolences/apologies... if not, then erm, carry on.

...Euphoria? Is that a Kenshin MV? I'm trying to remember if I've even seen it. *grin*

I'm pretty sure it's a RahXephon video. I saw one by that title (that was good) at Anime Expo this year. Pretty cool.

yyyyep. Lots and lots and lots of spiffy-ass special effects with a little RahXephon thrown in here and there. It was definitely 1337, but it's become an obsession among the community.

Really? Huh...

My favorite vid from AX was the Metropolis 'Center of the Sun' AMV, personally. And this horribly, horribly WRONG CCS video from Fanime. Oh geez.

AMVs are the rule, though. Wanky, but the rule.

Yay, "Sunshine, Lollipops, and rrrRRRrrr," probably - something like that. That was indeed drastically and hilariously wrong in every way. I caught that one at Otakon. :)

Oh my...

"Yeah the creator-dick-sucking section is three doors over to the left.

Don't forget to inflate thier ego's by cupping the balls while your down there."

*gasp*

"God rachel, if you had a penis, I don't think it'd be possible to keep me from raping you."

(Even as a joke, that is inexcusable!)

Well, yeah, long story - they do that in just about every thread. Village trolls. ;) They didn't break out the gigantic random images for this one, though.

Hey, they locked it. Well, pfft. Oh well.

This is a concept completely alien to most anime vidders. Much of the group suffers from It's Not A Hobby, It's An Art Syndrome. Possibly bled over from It's Not A Cartoon, It's Art Syndrome.

I couldn't even get past page 1 without hitting my level of disgust. Even after pulling an all-nighter a couple of nights ago vidding (had to make the Yaoi-Con deadline!), I still think of it as a hobby. A hobby that sucks up disproportiate amounts of time, but still... *shrug*

Dude, if WSFTP had a head, I would shoot it off after trying to make that freakin' deadline. I think I did, however, although my vid'll get disqualified anyway ('cause girls have cooties, even if they're just friends with our boys. Not that I'm bitter *cough*). Anyway, just commiserating. :)

And sure - you can spend lots of time on it, all the time and effort you want. To me it's the difference between having fun with it and treating it like some kind of Higher Calling. This applies to any fan pursuit; ficcers do the exact same thing.

Heh... well, mine'll probably be disqualified first, despite the female being his frickin' SISTER. But it looks totally wrong out of context. I guess it'll come down to whether it's Sean or Larissa who's making the cuts - I know from chatting with Larissa that she actually knows the difference. But since Sean's handling the technical details of the contest, the cuts might be made before that point. I guess I'll have to wait and see October 18th at the contest itself.

Took the words right out of my mouth. I've observed that right about the time they start calling it an Art, they've stopped doing it just for fun.

*shrug* When I stop having fun, I go and find something else to do. Hobbies aren't supposed to be stressful.

... does it make me excruciatingly stupid that, after twenty minutes on that site, I still haven't figured out how to download the videos?

Nah, it's complicated.

- If they're marked "local" you have to sign up and wait two weeks for the newbie waiting period to pass until you can download them. However, once at that point, you can get anything you want.

- If they're marked indirect, click and you'll go to the person's page, assuming there are no problems with it. From there it depends on if they haven't moved them or have a confusing page or whatever.

- If they're marked direct, right-click save-as.

...I can be helpful now and then. ;)
