O Holy Mods of FW? Can you do something (anything!) about the giant Mailing List Wank that's eating the page?

Thanks.

Edit: Thankee most kindly, [info]elffromspace!

I second that emotion. The damned thing isn't even funny.

In short: no. (Well, actually, yes.)

You can't edit community posts, only delete them and I'm loathe to perform such an action. It's hidiously annoying, yes, but it's not the end of the world is it now?

Answers on a postcard please.

Personal opinion here, like on metablog, I don't think it's such a great idea for people to post wanks they take part in. I've seen some very excellent ones which we wouldn't have seen had not a person involved come to us, but most of the point of FW is to stay objective. I've spotted quite a few posts recently which are just grinding an axe. I don't really like to go all moddy and say: THOU SHALt NOT POST THAT, but still, meh.

I have to agree. There's nothing wankier than crowing "LOOK AT ME WAAAANK!!!" It's like a dog being proud of its own vomit.

I think it's worse when people defend their own wankyness.

I thought the idea that anyone could be wanky/dumb on occasion was one of the big things around here... you know, everyone should be able to laugh at themselves?

Eh, oh well. I've always thought that way, anyway.

I post wanks in which I know the participants because I'm too damn lazy to go looking around random websites hoping to find wank - but fewer posts from me is not a bad thing in the slightest.

Oh, I agree. It just gets a little rediculous when people start with the "Well it's okay for ME to do it because I'm RIGHT. THEY are the wanky ones!", and that's the vibe I got from that thread.

Me, I get the feeling that members who post their own wank seem to expect some sort of amnesty because they're FW members. Not saying they should never post it. Hell, I probably have, and may again. ;) It's just the feeling I get sometimes. Like "Hahahah lookee me I'm so wanky hahah-- OMG YOU MADE FUN OF ME HOW COULD YOU BACKSTABBING BITCHES TURN ON YOUR OWN LIKE THAT?! *sobsob*"

...okay, so it's never been THAT bad. But I guarantee it will someday.

Yes, the eye-rolling on an occasion like that would be mighty indeed.

I've never expected (nor wanted) amnesty, myself, but I can see that happening.

I agree. I've posted wanks in which I've been a participant, but only when I'm the only one with the information who knows what's going on, especially if there's a lot of stuff that would require knowing where to look to put it together.

Otherwise, I let someone else know about and point them toward the fun.

I likewise rarely join in on wanks that involve a person I honestly don't care for, and have a personal gripe with. The few times I'll speak up in those wanks are usually to clarify data I'm familiar with for those not involved, if some confusion crops up, or to reply to a great comment that's gone off on a bunny trail away from the original topic.

Same here- like that last one I posted. But generally I try to point OUT my own wankiness...

Well I think it really depends on how the person reacts to the wank. In many of the wanks I've posted I've been a participent, but I'm usually just 'wanking along with Mitch' in those cases.

I think it only becomes an issue when someone's trying use F_W like their own horde of Flying Monkeys.

As long as the poster keeps a cool head about it I don't think it's a problem.

YMMV as always.

'wanking along with Mitch'

That needs to be an icon.

I was thinking of starting a community for self-wanks (although self and wank seem rather redundant terms to use together.) It'd get them off the main community.

Ah, damn. I was hoping that JournalFen had fixed it so that mods could edit posts. We'll just have to beat him/her/it/them about the head and shoulders until the little blue pencil swims into focus.

That wank? Is over five pages long in Word. FIVE PAGES OF NOT FUNNY. 2,555 non-LJ-cut words. I've written shorter fics.

I mean, I don't know what can be done about it, since the person who posted it is insisting that the mysteries of the lj-cut are beyond her, but dude.

Or... is that just me?
